Two Friends Heritage
(3.00)
A sophisticated, traditional American style blend! Red and lemon Virginias are blended in perfect measure with mild brown and unflavored black cavendish tobaccos, and a bit of fine, high grade burley leaf for just a little extra body. The blend is then delicately kissed with a subtle and intriguing flavor, enhancing the natural sweetness of the Virginias and providing a delightful, light room aroma.
Notes: From SmokingPipes: Fans of Virginia/burley blends will surely love this unsung blend, comprised of red and bright Virginias, dark and white burley, and a touch of unsweetened black cavendish. Easy to pack and light, this smooth sailing smoke offers up layer upon layer of naturally sweet VA flavor balanced with creamy chocolate notes from the burleys, and all enhanced with a lovely topping of plum, rum, and maple. The topping is understated, and works well to accentuate the depth and complexity of the tobaccos used. Created by Greg Pease and the late Craig Tarler, the two friends of "Two Friends Pipe Tobacco," this blend was Craig's every day smoke for years.

The red and lemon Virginias offer a little citrus and dark fruit, and are earthy with some grassiness, but I found them to be dry and dull. The brown and black cavendishes have a little sweetness, but often lose out to the other components. The burley is toasty, nutty, woody, and earthy with no sweetness, and at times, takes a lead, other times, it backs up the Virginias. The tobaccos fight too often for attention, and occasionally cancel each other out. The liquor topping is kind of tart and sour. Has a mild nic-hit. Won't bite. Burns slow and cool with an inconsistent flavor. Leaves little moisture in the bowl, and needs an average number of relights. The lack of balance, the raw dryness it leaves in the smoker's mouth, and an unpleasant after taste makes it hard to recommend it. One and a half stars.

I found Heritage to be a rather ordinary offering without much power and a black cavendish aftertaste that I did not find to be all that pleasant.
This is a cool burning blend and provides lots of creamy smoke as it is consumed. I have not tried it in a small bowl, which, in retrospect, may be why I'm overwhelmed by blend's blandness.
If you enjoy Burley, this will probably not offend. But, if it is Virginia you seek, the search doesn't end with Heritage.

I was recommended this blend at my local tobacconist shop, and I enjoyed the chocolate/vanilla note from the tin, but that was about it for me...
This tobacco simply doesn't take me anywhere, and I'm struggling to find any taste that sticks out. It's more like the tobaccos fight each other down to the point that none of the leafs get to shine and show off its own quality! Even if this blend isn't for me it's really not a bad tobacco, the quality is there and I will add one star to it based on that, but can't really recommend it.

I bought it in Israel. Like most Cornell & Diehl at the bottom has a stamp with the date of packing (26/09/2007). In opened in May 2010, so that it would be aged enough. Red and yellow Virginia, brown and black Cavendish, Burley are the ingredients. Very strong taste, which definitely comes from Cognac, it must also contain a little chocolate and nuts. After a while though it felt too much. You can easily smoke it after a good dinner, but wouldn't suggest it for the morning. It leaves a dry and full white ash at the end. It fills the bowl easily and it's also easily lit. Generally, however, it left me indifferent. Leaves a neutral aroma in the room.

(Update 6/29/06) This blend has me perplexed. I first sampled this six months ago from Outwest Tobacco and it was everthing I, as a new pipe smoker, could hope for. The sample I recieved was ribbon cut with NO CASING whatsoever; just great tobacco flavor and aroma. I was sure this was going to be my every day blend. I immediately ordered a 4oz tin. When I opened it up I was quite surprised. The tobacco inside resembled the tobacco I sampled but the stuff in the tin was definitely flavored. It wasn't bad, in fact it was quite pleasant, and only diminished the quality of the tobacco a little bit. Still satisfied, I ordered an 8oz bag (The tins have since dissapeared!) and was shocked when I received it. This third batch was nothing like the first and only resembled the second in bag aroma. The cut was not ribbon but more diced into tiny pieces, and quite dry. The magnificent taste and room note I remembered from the first sample was gone completely. I wondered, "Is this the same tobacco?" I think not. Oh how I long for the first stuff.

I have never heard of Lemon Virginia before and was curious to test a possible marketing ploy, that coupled with how good Two Friend's English Chocolate was, meant it was time to buy me some Heritage.
The open tin meant business, with a sour (Lemon?) and spicy leather scent that commanded attention even weeks after opening. I was pretty giddy to dig in. The thin Virginia ribbons had a nice mix of Cavendish bits, that were all perfectly dry and eager for fire. Sparked into a rolling cherry that never went out.
Reminded me of a quality cigarette without any distracting fillers; full in body, yet not overly strong in nicotine. As far as a Lemon zest here? I wasn't too sure, but I could be convinced it was bringing a bit of the Oriental-ish spice to the party.
For me, it was a fine smoke, even with it's inviting tin presence. I'm just an Aromatic fan at heart, and when it comes to those rare moments I want a Virginia product, it pales to Squadron Leader and the likes... Still I don't want to dissuade fans of those genre, it did feel like a quality product and a possible 3 star.

I was surprised to see that there had not been a new review in a couple of years.
I tend to think overall the Two Friends line is overlooked compared to the tobaccos in the GLP line. My favorite is honestly the Valle Crucis, which also was my introduction to the line.
Popping the tin, the tin note was rum to my nose. The tobacco was a mix of dark to light, all ribbon cut. Moisture level was a little higher than many CD tins but flipping it over, I noticed the date tag is 9-16-19 so it is freshly tinned.
Easy to pack and light. First part of the bowl was rum topped with a darker fruit which I'll believe is the plum. Not overpowering at all but leading the way over the tobaccos behind it.
Down through the middle of the bowls, the rum seemed to fade and I picked up on the burley which seemed to dominate this section. Nuttiness I guess. More nic hit. A little acidic in the retrohale and aftertaste.
Bottom third of the bowls seemed to me to be the most bland. I didn't get much out of the last, the topping is mostly gone (little hints of the plum still now and then to the end) and it smokes like many other blends without a lot of character down in the end. Burns great to ash, no real moisture to talk about, no tongue bite.
Always leaves an aftertaste in my mouth which is that plum to almost fig.. I like to pair it with a darker rum as a drink. That seems to compliment it nicely.
Overall, its been a good but not great blend. I think folks who enjoy rum topped aros will be a little disappointed in it. I think on its own.. its a nice treat but NOT an all day smoke with the aftertaste. It's a 2 star to me.

Heritage. Nothing here to be offensive in anyway, but just to bland and boring for me. Light's easily enough and behaved well enough to bowl's end, leaving a clean ash. I can't really say anything negative,it just didn't ring any bell's for me! Maybe a good blend if your trying to steer clear from aromatic's,or wan't to try a tobacco that taste's like real tobacco, without a bite! 6 out of 10.
