The toasty black cavendish is mostly a flavor carrier as the lead component. The earthy, nutty, woody burley gives it able support as it supplies the majority of the tobacco taste. The Virginia provides a little tart and tangy citrus, grass, bread, sugar, floralness, a pinch or two of spice, and a touch of acidity. It’s a couple of notches above the condiment line. The tart dark rum is the most obvious topping. The cinnamon and raisins are moderately present. All of them tone down the tobaccos without drowning them out. The strength and taste levels are medium. The nic-hit is just past the center of mild to medium. No chance of bite or harshness, and barely has a hint of a rough edge. Burns cool, clean, and a tad slow with a very consistent tartly sweet, mildly nutty flavor that’s a touch muddled by the toppings. Has a lightly lingering, mildly bitter after taste. The room note is very pleasant. Leaves a little moisture in the bowl, and requires a couple more than an average number of relights. Not quite an all day smoke. Two stars.

Tin note of spiced rum, cinnamon and sugar. Tobacco is mostly a Ribbon cut. The black cavendish appears to be rough cut. Blend of reddish brown and black. Moisture content is wet. Most all pipe smokers will want to dry this a good bit. Burns slow with many relights. The strength is mild to medium and nic is mild. Flavoring is mild to medium, with notes of Cinnamon, Raisin and Dark Rum. The raisin is the first to dissipate soon after lighting. The rum hangs around mostly in the background. The cinnamon seems to be present at all times. Taste is mild to medium and somewhat consistent, with notes of cinnamon, sweet raisin, spices, rum, sugar, tart and tangy citrus, peaty vegetation, dry, toast, floral, wood, acidic, orange peel, mildly savory, a slightly bitter, sweet nutty background note, and a smooth retro. Cavendish is leading with Burley, Virginia and Flavoring supporting. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is ok.
