Ken Byron Ventures Fireside Chat

(3.67)
Notes: Ken became curious about the lost “gold and tan” style American/Danish blends that fell out of favor for blackened leaf aromatics. Matured bright Virginia with smooth tan burley and a classic style fragrance.

The nutty, earthy, woody, barely sweet toasted burley is the lead component. The matured bright Virginia provides plenty of fermented tart and tangy citrus, grass, bread, vegetation, some sugar, floralness, sour lemon, mild spice and a very small touch of acidity as a supporting player. The creamy rich milk chocolate and marshmallow toppings moderately lessens the effect of the tobaccos as they synergistically create a very consistent creamy sweet, nutty, fruity, lightly floral flavor. The strength and nic-hit are a notch past the center of mild to medium. The taste is a rung past that. There’s no chance of bite or harshness. Burns cool and clean at a reasonable rate. Has a lightly lingering, pleasant after taste. The room note is a step stronger. Barely leaves any dampness in the bowl, and requires an average number of relights. An all day, comfortable, old style smoke. Four stars.

The bag note is nutty, vegetative, barn wood, burley. Ribbons of lighter colored tobacco. Moisture is perfect.

Nutty, woody, a tiny bit of cocoa, toasted grains, vegetative. This isn’t a sweet blend but it’s not bone dry. A nutty burley forward blend. It says it’s topped but it’s mild and really it just amplifies the tobacco flavor of cocoa and nuts. Retrohale is more nuts and a slight tingle on the nose. No bite, stays lit just fine. Scratches that itch for a codger style burley that isn’t too sweet or aromatic. Pleasant after taste. Nic hit is fine for a morning smoke. Mild on the pallet.
