**I wrote this review in December of 2020, but just moved it here since there were two entries for this blend. Since there are no moderators on this site, it's impossible to have duplicate entries deleted, or new ones added, unfortunately.**
What an outstanding aromatic. I recently got this blend, plus Rattray's Blossom Temptation and Kohlhase & Kopp's Asia 2018, from a friend in Southeast Asia since they're very hard to find in the US. They're all amazing.
They come in rectangular "jewelry box" tins instead of the round tins I'm used to, so they're more prone to drying out. However, this one, Peterson's Summertime, was in a sealed foil bag inside the tin, so it stayed much more moist than the others. The tobacco looks beautiful, there is a lovely contrast between the small leaves of very light bright Virginia, longer slices of slightly darker Virginia, the brown Burley, and nearly black of the Cavendish.
The smell is slightly reminiscent of Rattray's Blossom Temptation, just in the sense that it's very refreshing and summer-y, but the flavor is a bit stronger. The apple and blackcurrant flavors work together perfectly. It literally smells like an apple orchard. The apple is dominant, and the blackcurrant is in the background giving some tang. But they still don't drown out the tobacco, the sweet bright Virginia is there giving a fresh grassy scent too. First few puffs... nice "natural" taste and flavors, as if there were actual slices of apple in the blend. I actually looked through the tobacco to see if there were bits of Apple blossoms. There weren't. The bright Virginia's are grassy and have their own slightly sweet tang. The darker Virginia's have a dried fruit sweetness as well. The Burley is a great addition, though there isn't much, it's enough to sort of firm up the blend and give a woody, earthy flavor that helps keep things from being overly sweet.
This is a very pure aromatic, no GP or humectants. It burns smoothly and the added flavorings actually compliment the tobacco... the way a good aromatic should be. It's such a shame this is a limited edition. I only hope next years Summertime offering from Peterson will be as good... or maybe they'll come out with a regular year-round blend like this. The only negative I can say about it is that it can be a bit bitey if you smoke too fast.
Bottom line: This is one of best aromatics I've ever had. It's perfectly blended to resemble the fresh, outdoorsy scent and flavors of an apple orchard. Be sure to smoke it slowly, however, to avoid any chance of bite.
