Holger Danske Golden Harmony

(2.38)
Blended by hand from loose cut Virginia tobaccos, rounded with ready rubbed burley, black cavendish and Oriental leaf.
Notes: Formerly known as "Mango and Vanilla", due to regulations this blend is now called "Golden Harmony" and it now comes in a 40 grams pouch. Also, the recipe has been changed a bit. The old pouch description was, "A blend of selected, slightly toasted Virginia and burley tobaccos. The aroma of mellow mango fruit topped with a touch of vanilla gives this mixture a unique tropical character."

This is a good aromatic and I would rate it 3 stars if there weren't so many mixtures available that are even better. It didn't bite or leave any goop in my pipe as so many other aros do. I enjoyed the tin of it but I doubt I will ever get another.

Holger Danske - Mango and Vanilla.

The aroma from this is mostly Vanilla, there is a slight fruity touch to it but the Vanilla definitely outweighs the fruit. The mixture has a good level of moisture to it so it can be used straight away. My blend appears to contain an equal amount of each of the two varieties of weed, all in even sizes.

When I am smoking this I feel a touch perplexed, the taste is diametric to what the aroma led me to believe. I thought the Vanilla would take the lead, leaving the Mango way back but to my surprise the fruit takes the pole position making the Vanilla seem redundant. At the beginning the flavour is pleasant enough but after the first ten minutes it develops a bitter flavour which is not a pleasure as it leaves a coating of gloop in my mouth. I must say that this bites me hard, even when sipped I still get bit by it. The burn from this is consistent, from start to finish it only needs a touch of the flame if I put it aside to talk for too long and when the pipe is finished there is only a very small amount of dottle left behind.

Nicotine: mild. Room-note: pleasant.

I score this two stars as for me it has a few issues which are not compensated for by the taste: a bit boring!

Somewhat recommended.

Easy smoke but does not give the Mango and Vanilla note.

I don't recommend this. It was too strong in room note, too fruity for my taste, not very pleasant... Maybe I should try to smoke it outside in the spring or summer, but now, in the middle of winter I find it a bit too flavored.

I think I will just let it age a bit in my jar and try it in the summer, maybe update my review then...

Okay, this one surprised me. I have recently been going through my "tobacco cellar," and trying blends I've had stocked up for years. This is one I purchased years ago from that wonderful Dan Tobacco catalog that is no more.

Yes, Mango is right at the top of the tin and drips all the way to the bottom in heavy waves. It smokes that way, too. Make sure you use a pipe dedicated to aromatics. The flavor remains long after the leaf (nice, ribbon cut), is gone.

This one bears little resemblance to what I normally smoke. But, I liked the sweetness. I think "fun," is the descriptive I would use regarding how I felt about the couple of bowls I smoked. The rest of the tin will show up at my pipe club's tobacco bar with my compliments.

Found this at my local B&M and just couldn't pass it up as this was on my "must try" list back when I was a strictly aromatic only smoker. Upon opening the tin I was almost knocked off my feet by the oh-so-close to overpowering aroma of the casing. I was afraid that it would be too much, but once I loaded a bowl in my trusty cob I was pleasantly surprised to find that the taste of the tobacco isn't overpowered by the casing. Very sweet, a tad on the "goopy" side I wouldn't smoke this in anything but a cheap cob or a briar dedicated to aromatics. Overall, as aromatics go this is very good. Makes a nice 'dessert bowl'.

Update:

I did not throw the pouch away. Three months later for some unclear reason I decided to give it another try.

Now the casing is not as intense. Most of it must have evaporated, so the tobacco can be smoked. For me, this means an upgrade to "somewhat recommended".

I only decided to review this blend because of my huge disappointment.

I do not think that the tobaccos in this blend are of any significance. There is an extremely strong chemical flavor of rotten Mango, which hides away everything else.

It is the first pouch of tobacco I did not manage to finish, no matter how hard I tried.

I would recommend Brebbia Allegro Mixture #4 as an alternative to the curious.

Where is the mango in this stuff? It neither smells nor tastes like mango, but to some strong chemical. If there's some tobacco here, I sure couldn't tell. It also burns way too hot.

If I could give it 1.5 stars I would (just because I have tried some aromatics that are even worse than this one, i.e. Borkum Reef's).

Only smoking aromatics on occasion, I was pleasantly suprised. What a nice tropical like vanilla. A nice change from the usual. It will burn you, of course- A great one for the tool box. I suspect it might have calories.....

This tobacco offers a nice fruity variation on the vanilla theme, even though I'm not 100% sure it's mango I'm tasting, but the vanilla you can definetly taste, and yes it can burn a bit too wet anc cause tongue bite if not smoked properly, but is without a doubt a good tasing nice smelling aromatic, i bought a few pouches, and plan to keep some around for cool evenings. Enjoy!
