Peter Heinrichs Latakia Flake
(3.00)
Latakia Flake is a full bodied, decently spicy speciality from Cyprian latakia, dark fired Kentucky from the USA, and African Virginia. Dark Fired Kentucky and Virginia are fermented twice to enhance the natural sweetness and afterwards blended with the latakia. This mixture is pressed for 14 days. Before the pressing natural oils such as rose, cinnamon and coriander oil are added which give this tobacco a special scent. This blend is full bodied, tastes smoky in the beginning and then a bold smoking experience builds up.

Snatched a sample of this out of interest, as the description reads quite good! Lots of Latakia, double-fermented (cavendish-ed?) Virginia and dark fired Kentucky...the flake is PITCHBLACK! Really... just 1-2 dark-brown sprinkles in it, but mainly black! Yet the scent from the unburnt flake is quite delicate. Sweet, smoky, earthy and slightly flowery.
Well conditioned and crafted flakes that easily rub out, I'm not sure who produced this for Heinrichs (K&K and Planta produce their blends), but I'd say it's a K&K flake!
In the pipe this is a suprisingly smooth smoke. Creamy-sweet, you easily pick up the flower-oils, almost Lakeland-ish. The Latakia and dark fired Kentucky in interplay create a decent, rich smokiness and earthiness that's paired with the sweetness and the flowery, rose-y aroma. The coriander and cinammon give some mild notes of fresh spices, whilst I don't really perceive the cinnamon as such.
Not my cup of coffee due to the presence of the flowery aroma, it reminds me of old granny perfume, but I can see this might appeal to people who like some Lakeland-ish aroma paired with Latakia. Only somewhat recommended!
(My rating "mild to medium" for flavouring is due to the rose-oil, cinammon and coriander, no artificial flavouring I could detect here!)
