Cornell & Diehl Derringer
(2.92)
Simple yet unique, heady yet versatile, elegant but still packing a whollop, we think you'll find this killer Virginia blend much as the settlers of the Old West found its namesake. Presented as a ready rubbed so it's quick to pack and smooth on the draw.

While I havent had too many Cornell and Diehl straight virginia blends that I have really enjoyed, Derringer is one that I have been surprised by.
The aroma is sweet and slightly grassy. From first puff to last its sweet with some citrus and a nuttiness that you get from some darker Virginia's, but mostly just a nice virginia overall flavor. Towards the bottom i get a black pepper flavor and spice. It burns cool and clean with no bite.
So far this is one of the best offering for a straight virginia from Cornell and Diehl. According to a YouTube video from them about casing vs toppings, Derringer is cased with sugar. The casing along with the stoved brights sweeten and smooth this blend out. It reminds me of Sam Gawith Best Brown Flake with the nutty character but not as full. A great all day Va that wont burn you tastes out.

This straight Virginia blend is pure comfort for those with a fondness for this tobacco type. No fuss lighting or remaining lit to concern oneself with. Patience and sipping pay off in sweetness that the leaf yields. I am wondering why this gem isn’t brought up more than I hear about it. A readily available non-unicorn blend that satisfies! It’s time to order a pound.

VERY underrated. I dont understand how this is not talked about more. This is an amazing virginia blend. So many different flavors. All the classic light virginia sweetness, citrus and hay flavors but has the deeper bready flavors of a darker aged virginia as well. I also really enjoy the cut of this. It is a very wide cut broken flake that I have just been packing straight without rubbing out and it burns fantastic. Burns slow and smokes cool and dry. My tin was two years old when I smoked it. I plan on trying some fresh if I can and I will def be aging several tins. I feel like this could also scratch the itch of anyone missing their Mcclelland virginias. Dont get me wrong it is not a replacement but it does remind me of Mcclelland at certain times during the smoke.
