The tobacco came at a good level of hydration for me. It is a mix of tan and brown tobacco in a medium ribbon. There are some irregular chopped bits, but it is really a ribbon and not fish flake.
This was a delightful smoke. It is a little sweeter than expected, and there is a slight bitter edge to the burley - especially in the last half of the bowl. It was easy to smoke at a good pace, and the flavor was good. There is a little earth from the burley, and the Virginia presents as grassy with no citrus notes. The description says nutty, but I am not getting much of that. What I am getting may be the power of suggestion. The nicotine level may be a little high to be an all-day smoke for some, but it suits me.
The price point is very good. I just ordered a pound bag, so this is really a 3.5 on my scale. It is easy to recommend to someone (not sensitive to nicotine) who wants a quality VaBur that is untopped. This is very good.
Edit 5/15/21 - I just opened a fresh bag of this and started wondering how much of it I had smoked in the past 3 or 4 years. I went though my orders, and I have bought 14 lbs of this. It really is a very capable all-day smoke and I have enjoyed it more than the initial review may have indicated.

The very earthy, woody, mildly nutty, dry dark burley also has a very light toast, spice and molasses sweetness, along with a very small sprinkling of cocoa as the lead component. It also has a little sharpness and sourness. The red Virginias provide light tangy dark fruit, earth, wood, and a bare hint of citrus. They’re not really more than a background player as the burley is very potent. The strength is a step past the medium mark, while the taste and nic-hit are medium. Won’t bite, but fast puffing may produce a couple cigarette/cigar notes. The tobacco is dry, so it burns a little fast, but mostly cool and very clean with a very consistent, mildly sweet and rather savory flavor. Hardly leaves any dampness in the bowl, and requires few relights. The after taste lightly lingers, and is a tad marred by a sour, bitter hit near the finish. I deduct a star for that. Can also be a mixer. More of a two and a half star blend.

I am glad I've come across this tobacco. For starters, it has one of the nicest room-notes for a VaBur I've ever encountered. I cannot detect any added flavours or toppings, but the smoking experience is all about the nutty flavour and sweet virginia leaf it contains. Somewhat similar to Haunted Bookshop, but lacking the nicotine punch in the end and the spicy notes of the perique. The moist content is rather high, but it smokes perfectly fine straight out of the bag and does not need any drying time at all. Also, it seems to burn faster than expected, but not hot in any case. And the fact this is a burley blend with no added flavours means you get no tongue-bite. It seems to develop a very light rough edge towards the last quarter of your bowl, but this is to be expected from most burley blends. This blend gravitates more on the burley side of the argument than the virginia's, but the latter adds support, sweetness and softens its rough edge. Its nutty dimension is truly remarkable and at this price tag it really is a steal. It can be an all-day smoke, both for the morning and evening sessions. Taking all of this into account, its only fair to give it a 3 stars rating.

This is a very tasty, yet budget VaBur. It has plenty of malt and bread flavours and some citrus sparkle. It fills the palate.
Comes quite dry and packs and burns without fuss. Strength is a very personal matter, and my preferences are towards lighter tobaccos when it comes to nicotine, but the salient feature of this baccy for me was its strength. Well outside of my comfort zone, but I am sure this will be right up the street of some pipesters.
It reminded me of Royal Yacht, tho without that baccy's flavouring. I'm not getting much in the way of Burley coco or nuttiness, but that might just be me.
Like the other bulk LC tobaccos, this would suit DIYers wanting to tweak their blends, but it smokes well as it is. Not an all day smoke, unless you are a nicotine junky, but does me well as a change up smoke.

Bulk. Arrived very dry.I haven't rehydrated it but maybe I will try if the next batch arrives as dry as this one did.
Lots of darker leaf and some lighter mixed in. The cut is a true ribbon. The pieces pack well and easy if careful. This blend takes the light well and never gives any trouble if packed correctly.
Bag aromas of nutty Burley, earth and tangy Virginia. It smells like basic tobacco which is exactly what I was expecting.
First flavors are of the earthy Burley then some nutty notes follow. The Virginia is far in the background but provides some sweetness to the blend. I feel like a small addition of perique would spice this up a notch but that is not what the blender had in mind. I have not tried adding any perique but will likely do so with the next batch that arrives.
The burn is easy and cool if you have a slow cadence. It can bite and burn very harsh if you smoke it hard. The body is medium at its height and has a mild to medium nic hit depending on the day.
Overall, for what it is, this is a good blend. It is not flashy, just good tobacco blended properly. I recommend this to anyone who likes a mild to medium Burley based blend.

Still going through a very generous 2 ounce bag of this one. It was purchased with several other Burley blends with the intent of doing a comparison to see which I preferred. It’s very similar to MM Missouri Pride although a bit less costly as it’s sold in bulk. That said, it’s an enjoyable smoke in spite of seeming a bit dry in the bag...seems like it may be best smoked a bit dry. Burley seems to be the major component and in my experience, Burley seems best a bit on the dry side.
It loads, packs and burns well, isn’t a problem managing a bowl and is probably best in a typical 3/4” X 1 1/2” bowl. Wide shallow bowls seem to inhibit the flavor and make for a hotter burn.
My gut feeling is that the ribbon size is a bit narrow but after watching a video/interview of the blending process, I realize that changing this aspect of the blend isn’t a small thing...they aren’t producing it tin by tin.
I like it and will get around to reviews of the others I selected in time, meanwhile I’ll just enjoy it as an anytime smoke in virtually any pipe I have on hand.

Package note of vinegary sour and peaty vegetation. Tobacco is a ribbon cut of brown an dark brown. Moisture content is ok. A few pipe smokers may want to dry it a bit. Burns moderate with a few relights. The strength is medium and nic is medium. No flavoring detected. Taste is medium and mostly consistent, with notes of molasses, spices, mild tangy fruit, peaty dry vegetation, sweet grass, fermented sour, bitter orange peel/zest, toasted bread, herbal floral, very earthy, wood, a slightly spicy hay and nutty background note, and a peppery retro. Burley is leading with Virginia supporting. Room note is tolerable, and aftertaste is good.
