Dan Tobacco Elwood Flake No. 2
(3.00)
Four different Virginia provencies and a portion of a delicate Oriental tobacco are fermented together in the press together with the addition of a traditional discreetly fruity fig casings and then stored to maturity.
A flake inspired by tradition, slow burning, cool smoke and gently sweet taste.
Notes: "Elwood of London" blends had to be taken out of Dan Pipes offer 1992 due to trademark law reasons. Finally re-introduced in 2013.

Elwood "Flake". Its more of a broken flake. When opening the tin, I was waiting for beautiful brown flakes, but a bunch of chaotic and wild stripes of baccy said "Hi". No problem, never judge a book by its cover. Mr. baccy will be burning soon enough.
The smell was very very sweet, in fact, the sweetest tobacco I ever smelled. The aroma of figs is strong here, completely hiding the natural smell of tobacco. The broken flakes were wet and sticky to the touch.
It needs a little dry time, but don't dry it too much, it looses its charm. Lights surprisingly easily and stays lit with a little effort.
I was a bit afraid, that the fig aroma will stole the show, but the Orientals appear with each sip and are in perfect harmony with the figs. Adding spice and herbal essence to the smoke. It really creates a unique smoking experience. For me, the Virginias are second players. appearing here-and-there with more sweetness and grassiness.
Certainly not an all day smoke, more of a dessert. A pleasant escort to your hot coffee and piece of apple cinnamon cake.

Pleasant sweet aroma after figs was present in fresh tobacco. No other toping was detected. Moisture was accurate, flakes was somehow rubbed and broken. Smoke was very mellow and gentle. After several puffs another fruity smell appears (cherry probably...) and some floral essence was presented in taste which I like. Also hint of spicy part of tobacco appears during a smoke. Burns hot and need several relights. Retrohale was easy without harshness.
