Gurkha Rare Breed

(2.75)
Notes: Gurkha products are known to be unique and Rare Breed fits in that same mold. A smooth, medium strength latakia blend with toasty red Virginia, a bit of white burley, exotic Turkish and a splash of perique for richer body and a hint of sweetness - a perfect late night bowl.

Gurkha - Rare Breed.

A coarse cut mixture concealed in an oil stained paper wrapping! But, although the paper's stained the blend's still smokable. I note a very natural, rustic, aroma; it obviously has no toppings. It mostly includes medium and light brown pieces, blacks account for much less.

This is one of those blends which is full in flavour, yet smooth and mellifluous. The red Virginias give a slightly 'wet' fruitiness, and add a sumptuous quality to the smoke. The Turkish and Burley reduce some of the Va's sweetness with a dry, maybe bitter, caustic, 'rawness'. The Perique becomes more evident as a bowl gets smoked; at first it seems absent, but as the smoke progresses a touch of sharpness starts to come through. After smoking only this today I haven't been bitten once and have found the burn cool and steady.

Nicotine: below medium. Room-note: I like it, but it's quite full.

Rare Breed? It paired well with my morning coffee, and even better with my evening beer! So, maybe that means it's an 'all day smoke'?! Either way, I'll give it three stars:

Recommended.

I had a chance to sample some Rare Breed in my latest box from the TinSociety.

It's a combination of a variety of tobaccos in a decent ribbon cut. The smell is the bag/tin is good, but not great. The moisture level of my sample was perfect for packing and easy lighting.

The taste is ok. I can taste the orientals and catch glimpses of the perique spice. The smokiness of the latakia came and went through the bowls. It was not a really exciting tobacco, but a good smoke.

Can't see adding it to my rotation though... so it's about a 2.5 star.
