Alsbo black is one of the cheaper pipe tobaccos available here in the uk, and given I do like a black Cavendish mixture I thought why not.
Opening the pack I was very surprised it is more Virginia burley and a good mix of cavendish, as soon as I realised this a lovely vanilla note hit my nose mixed with chocolate prunes and plum.
Packing is easy and it takes the light easily right out of the pack.
Smoking is a joy, just enough nicotine to refresh and revitalise and them sumptuous aromas that met my nose transfer well to the pallet. Bite is not even thought of it is a very smooth creamy smoke with good mouth feel.
Room note is beautiful and shouldn't offend anyone.
Deffinitely a keeper this one, a fantastic mild moreish all day smoke.
As a side note, this tastes very similar to borkum riff original which is sadly no longer available in the uk, so if you are mourning it's passing this is a very worthy replacement.

Being a black cavendish blend, you get the vanilla flavor you expect, plus a little hazelnut to boot. I found it a little spicy, too. The strength is a step past the mild mark. The taste level is a slot past the center of mild to medium. Has a very mild nic-hit. Burns kind of fast, but I experienced no tongue bite, and has a very consistent taste to the finish. Leaves little moisture in the bowl. Requires few relights. Has a short lived, pleasant after taste and room note. Can be an all day smoke.

Alsbo - Black.
Retyped 21/08/18.
Surprisingly, for a blend named Black, the majority of it's brown! Nit picking aside, though, the unlit blend has many positive points: coarse ribbons, more like a mixture, perfect hydration, with a sweet nutty aroma.
Like in the pouch note, the best way of describing the aromatic flavour would be sweet and nutty. The brown Cavendish easily outweighs the black, preventing the smoke having a 'sticky' character. Although it doesn't bite, a word of warning goes to the temperature: should I puff with too much alacrity I find it becomes a touch warm. So, I'd recommend a more tentative technique. Also, a gentle technique betters the speed: puff harshly and it will burn fast, but sipping with ease will supply a longer smoke.
Nicotine: not much. Room-note: nutty and lovely!
Alsbo Black? A nice enough smoke for a recommendation:
Three stars.

A friend from overseas sent me several Orlik tobacco blends to enjoy and/or try that are not readily available in the USA. I think this one is, but am not sure.
This tobacco tasted more like Almond Extract to me. I can certainly tout it as one aromatic lovers would enjoy simply because the added flavoring is there in droves.
Caution; this one is pretty soppy in the tin and will require many re-lights if you don't attempt to dry it out for about 24 hours in the open air first.

Dark and sweet.
A heavily flavoured aromatic - the pouch note already is that of a somewhat old-fashioned cake & coffee shop - black cavendish is the main character here, but as it's augmented by so many other features it's barely recognisable as such at the end, and the general experience is something akin to smoking a dark chocolate-coated marzipan truffle, the virginia seeming to be there merely to provide a supporting base. Unfortunately, as the taste does come from the flavouring mostly, it always remains a bit artificial and unfulfilling, and while the undertone has that dark sweetness, it is never very strong; this is clearly an all-day smoke on the mild side.
Would probably not buy again unless for some reason I really felt in the mood for something like this and it happened to be the only such one available.

It's easily accessible, it's relatively cheap, and it doesn't make you want to die when you smoke it - these are all good things in a tobacco. What it doesn't do, however, is actively make you want to smoke it. It's just so average in almost every single way.
When you open the pouch and take a whiff it smells lovely, if a little sweet. It packs easily and lights well. The smoke is pleasant, although sometimes a little hot, and the aromas make you think, "yes, this certainly is a pipe tobacco that I'm smoking." Then you dump out the light ash and forget about the whole experience rather promptly.
I guess what I'm saying is that I have no real complaints about this particular smoke, but I can't say I have any real praise for it either.

Very nice aroma. Medium size cut. A bit hard to keep lit.
A good choice for beginners because it does not bite

Nothing to write home about. Just OK if you are looking for a Vanilla aromatic. It does not burn too hot and it does not possess a strong tongue bite. Probably I got a dry pouch - but overall I will not buy another one. I have found quite a few better aromatics in this group.

I found this Danish tobacco to be a bit too mellow for my tastes, being a predominantly english smoker with leanings toward all things Balkan.
This is a great beginner's smoke; not overpowering, essentially not a tongue-burner (although you could if you tried!), and carries a "wife rating" that's decent enough to allow more than a few pleasant puffs indoors.
I wouldn't, however, recommend this tobacco to a more seasoned smoker; it's simply too mild to be sampled without being bored of it even after a few sessions.

Package note of spiced vanilla, nuts and tangy fruit. Tobacco is a thick ribbon of brown, dark brown and a little black. Moisture content is good. Some pipe smokers may want to humidify it a bit. Burns slightly fast with few relights. The strength is mild and nic is mild. Flavoring is mild to medium, with notes of nuts, vanilla and fruit. The flavoring is quite strong in the beginning. Vanilla disappears in the first 1/3 and the nutty lessens. The nutty drops to the background around the second 1/3. The tangy dark fruity lessens a little but never goes away. Taste is mild to medium and mostly consistent, with notes of vanilla, tart and tangy citrus, spices, toasted sweet nutty, bread, sugar, very savory, rich earth, slight dry bitterness, slight woody, a spicy tangy dark fruit background note, and a moderate peppery retro. Flavoring is leading with Cavendish supporting. Room note is pleasant, and aftertaste is good.
