Samuel Gawith Finest Kendal Twist Black XX

(2.18)
For over two centuries, the blenders and spinners of Samuel Gawith, Kendal, have been producing the famous Kendal Twists. Coal miners, both underground and on the ground, have been chewing our Pigtails, whilst pipe smokers have savoured the rich flavours and slow burning characteristics of the thick Brown No.4 and Black XX. All of our twist tobaccos can be smoked either flavoured or un-flavoured. Some of our popular flavours are black cherry, rum, whiskey and apple. All twists are available pre-packed or on the roll. Because the process is almost entirely by hand, quality control ensures consistency of excellence.
Notes: Pigtail - thin, Bogie - medium, Irish - thick.

This is for the Hearty, Leather Men, Not for the average joe. I recommend keeping it around for visitors- to try, what I feel, May be the STRONGEST. It is caustic smoke, Burning Leather, Earth ,ROBUST.. However, If you use a very narrow, small pipe, flavor can be detected. (Through The Smoke I Mean...) Whip It Out At Parties! Otherwise it hurts my stomach. - back when this type stuff was smoked, it was usually smoked in a long thin clay pipe with a little bitty bowl. It might be good this way........Otherwise, its too expensive for curiosities sake.

Unless you have a stomach of cast-iron, stay away from this stuff.

I thought I was tough, but this tobacco made me collapse. They said it was strong, so I had to try and ordered a 25g piece of rope from Synjeco... The look is incredible: a large rope, so tightly pressed that it looks like a piece of leather, very smooth , oily and shiny. I cut four thin slices and rubbed them in a little pipe, then lit... WHAM! It immediately struck a devilish blow, so strong that it made me wonder if it wasn't better for me to lay down the pipe and raise the white flag of defeat: this stuff made me cough like hell! I persisted, in pain (my throat hurt!) and suffocated by the thick smoke... The taste is not very deep, under the strong surface. Some sweetness, some spicyness, some licorice hints. After five minutes I had to give up, not much for the nicotine, but for the aggressiveness of the smoke to my throat and mouth... Subsequent bowls were a little better: no more dizziness and less harshness, but this is still too strong and tickling for me. A word of caution: don't underestimate this tobacco! Those who say it is overwhelmingly strong are not joking! This stuff is made for killing rhinoceros, not for smoking! I suggest Samuel Gawith's Brown Pigtail, instead, if you are looking for a nice rope tobacco.

Whew! SG has black ropes X, XX and XXX. The XXX is steam-pressed the longest. The flavors produced by the XX and XXX, however, border on bland, while the strength is off the charts. Okay for the lover of nicotine, a bit tastier than the brown ropes, but overall a taste that would appeal to a very small segment of the pipe-smoking population.
