For over two centuries, the blenders and spinners of Samuel Gawith, Kendal, have been producing the famous Kendal Twists. Coal miners, both underground and on the ground, have been chewing our Pigtails, whilst pipe smokers have savoured the rich flavours and slow burning characteristics of the thick Brown No.4 and Black XX. All of our twist tobaccos can be smoked either flavoured or un-flavoured. Some of our popular flavours are black cherry, rum, whiskey and apple. All twists are available pre-packed or on the roll. Because the process is almost entirely by hand, quality control ensures consistency of excellence.

The bold Virginias offer a lot of smokey, woody dirt, floral vegetative grass, and fermented dark fruit. It also has a toasted quality and touch of spice to it. I get a sense of black tea and leather, too. The nicotine level is high. Needs some dry time after you slice it. Burns slow, has a little harsh bitterness, and sports a consistent, rich, full bodied flavor. Doesn’t bite. Requires plenty of relights and leaves moisture in the bowl. Not as complex a smoke as my description appears, and certainly not for the faint of heart. The room note will chase away your friends, family, dog and spirits, unless the latter are in a bottle. Your rating will depend upon how much you like very strong tobacco.

This one is way too much stronger than anything else that I have smoked. I cannot have 2 consecutive pipes of it or the world starts to spin around me.

Buy a $4.00 pack of Denobili cigars and smoke them instead ! Same taste and potency and you ll save money ! This is probably better if you chew it !

I chewed Kodiak, Skoal and Gizzly for over 20 years.
This makes a much better chewing tobacco than pipe tobacco.
Smoking, 1 star. Chewing 3 stars. Huge nicotine hit either way.

Yeah I'm not sure abouth the possibility of recommending this to anyone, but it is obviously of good quality. Black XXX is a like a porn star of tobaccos. At first I took to unwrapping the leaves and stretching them out and then tearing them up and leaving them to dry before rubbing and fillin a bowl. It smoked ok that way, but eventually I just took a knife to it and, yep, that's the way to do it. It is very strong (it bears repeating I suppose) but I got a few enjoyable bowls out it, especially if the weather was too grim for words and spending any time out of doors was unpleasant (oh why why why the smoking ban in pubs in UK? just folly), then this held a few quick hits every now and again; itcertainly delivers the goods. This is not a refined taste; it is primitive, coarse. I foun myself smokin it in primordial weather conditions not far from Hadrians Wall and it indeed was quite a comfort in that situation and it seemed to smoke better for it. You might even describe this as medicinal. If I had the spare resources I'd always carry a little bit. Might come in handy to mix every now and then.

I like nicotine, but prefer to smoke it, not mainline it directly into my aorta. This must be that stuff they used on Uma Thurman when she OD'd in Pulp Fiction.
My experience was similar to Pipestud's, only after I fell off my horse, she dropped a meadow muffin on me then kicked me a few times for good measure.

I had the good fortune to try this with several much more mature and experienced smokers than myself at pipe show a few years back. The product (note the scarce use of the word tobacco!) had been shelved for a couple years to mature and it was the only experience with a rope tobacco I have ever had. This is certainly not a product for all tastes to be sure, but I will never forget the strength of this stuff. CAUTION TO THE MARRIED: try at home only with divorce insurance! Room note is off the charts.
