Paul Olsen - No. 45.
I love the way the My Own Blend tobaccos are packaged, they have been left with enough room to breathe so are of the ultimate moisture straight from the tin.
There isn't much in the way of a tin note, just a straight forward Virginia grassy one.
I opt to rub my flakes and because they're thinner to begin with than some blends this is a real easy task. Simple: rub, load and light.
As a gentle rub has created almost ribbons it doesn't need much time with the flame. It just takes a very short toasting light and a few seconds of puffing to get a decent burn going.
With the flavour, I can't think of anything other than "delicate Virginia" to say. I like the taste but it doesn't have that 'full on' grass/hay quality that some of the more eminent Virginia flakes such as Mac Baren or Sam Gawith have. It just seems a lot lighter.
The nicotine is light as well; it sits right at mild, that's fine by me but I suspect it would be too little for a lot of folks.
This doesn't give me ANY tongue bite no matter what. It can be sucked as hard as possible and it still gives me none.
The room note? Straight Virginia albeit quite light, thus making it a very good blend for smoking in the company of others.
Although this lacks a bit of depth in comparison to other Va flakes I feel it's still a very worthwhile smoke.
Highly ecommended.
