A ton of nougat and buttery caramel note and flavor with strong Madagascar vanilla bean and a few drips of plum juice. Really nice aromatic with a rich flavor.

I transfered this to an airtight jar from it's non-vacuum (very attractive) 100g tin two years ago, and have been having occasional bowls ever since.

The smell is wonderful, and takes me back to childhood nougat and sweetshops, I can also smell a lot of vanilla. It packs well and lights easily (and stays lit). The taste is very sweet, and for me verges on the cloying. Worst of all I always get tongue bite from this particular aromatic (hence my slow consumption).

It is a nice quality blend for a summers day, and in moderation makes a nice change from my normal English blend favourites. But I would find it hard to smoke this often, or in large quantities.

I don't normally go for the aromatic tobaccos but I will definately make an exeption with this one! It comes in a nice gold colourd tin. Upon opening the tin you can smell the aroma through the cellophane wrapping. Once you open the cellophane you are hit with a wonderful mixture of smells; vanilla, orange and almost a spicey note to it. Which leaves you wanting to get it in a pipe and lit straight away! Once lit, it's surprising how much of the original aroma you smell in the tin, carries through to the smoke. But still has qualities of 'proper tobacco' in there, as well. I've smoked this in crowded beer gardens and complete strangers have commented on how nice it smells. Definately one for a big bowled pipe. An excellent smoke, well worth every penny!

Wow, wow, wow. Everything about this tobacco is classy. It comes beautifully presented in a smart tin, wrapped in cellophane. The tobacco itself looks beautiful. It looks and smells like good potpourri.

Make an event of this one. Take one of your better pipes, and smoke it in a peaceful place, at a time when you won't be disturbed. It is very easy to pack, and burns perfectly. Once lit, there are delicate flavours to be discovered. Faintly sweet, berries, turkish delight, grapes, musk, rosewater, clove. Wonderful...

A tin of this tobacco will make a perfect gift for a good friend, or for yourself. It is something special. One of my all-time favourites, together with Balkan Sasieni and Dunhill Flake. Perhaps Peterson's best blend ever, this one comes highly recommended.

Beautifully presented in a Gold flip lid tin . The 2010 Special Reserve is a very nice smoke . Wonderful aromatic tin note - almost intoxicating fruity smell . Perfect for smoking straight from the tin . Seemed to get better as the tobacco dried out a bit. Smokes dry on the whole. Thick clouds of wonderfully smelling smoke- positivively delicious taste . I agree with the reviewer who said it can burn a little hot if puffed quickly. Room note that is second to non - positive comments from all . It must be good as I have ordered several tins to cellar . Highly recommended as an after dinner or evening smoke

This blend tastes just like Sillem's Black without the Latakia. So if you you have been wanting to try Sillem's Black but have been turned off due to the Latakia ingredient, then give this one a try. Very good for an aromatic tobacco but I'll stick to my Sillem's since I think the flavoring they use compliments the Latakia brilliantly. Not gonna give it four stars for lack of originality but I do recommend this blend.

*Update* 12-15-10. Okay, this blend only slightly resembles Sillem's Black. The more I smoke it, the more fruity it actually tastes. Still A pretty darn good aromatic none the less.

Typical of the annual Peterson's Special Blends, circa 2010 is quite aromatic with a mixed fruit and vanilla taste that is very pronounced. Not much strength in the tobacco, but awash with rich smoke. It also burns quite dry for an aromatic blend but can heat up if puffed rapidly.

I've smoked this blend out of several pipes at different moisture levels. The taste is similar to DeLuxe Mixture (I've smoked this blend 6-7 months ago so I might be wrong). It's ok but it is less than I expected from a "special reserve".

This is a mild, mellow blend that is somewhat rough in cut. The tin aroma is one of fruit and vanilla. The tobacco lights easily and when sipped burns to a fine ash to the bottom of the bowl. Make no mistake this is an aromatic but it does seem to have good tobaccos at its core. The Virginia did not show up for me until the last 1/3 of the bowl. Overall this is a fruity flavored tobacco on a smooth Vanilla base. I only occasionally smoke aromatics primarily because most are too sweet or coying. I find this one refreshingly different. It makes a wonderful after dinner smoke. I do think that this one will have to be jarred as it comes only in a flip top 100 gram tin and I believe it would dry out very quickly. At around $25 a tin it is a bit expensive to buy just to sample but if aromatics are your thing or you have enjoyed Peterson's Special Selections in previous years this one is well worth a try.
