Have any of you heard of Michael Bay? He’s a young Danish pipe maker who learned his craft under the careful watch of Thomas Eltang. His workshop is 15 miles away from where I live. I think he makes some fantastic pipes and I especially like the rustication he uses, based on Eltang’s technique.
I’ve written to him to ask him if he’ll make me one with a 9mm filter 😊
Here is one of my favourite pipes of his, a beautifully crafted, elegant example of a Prince:
That's a real work of art indeed! I've looked at some of his pieces on smokingpipes. Unfortunately they're a bit above my current budget.
😍 now that is a Prince!!! …and a local artisan. Can’t go wrong.
Mike Bay is a well known Danish pipe maker. I have seen his pipes under the brand Bay of Denmark or Mike Sebastian Bay, or simply Bay pipes in several Italian websites. And also in smoking pipes.eu
They are of the best quality, but not my aesthetics.
So, Mike replied to my email and agreed to make me a pipe with a 9mm filter! 😁
He’s a bit busy with work at the moment, so pipe-making must be a sideline. That speaks to how much a pipe-maker makes, money-wise. And, that’s why I don’t mind saving up to pay them for their work, if I like it.
It's almost there. You are making a beautiful and rare acquisition my friend!!
Very nice pipe!
Michael and I have something in common. We both do our best work in slippers. 😂
Thanks for posting this, Lee.
And CONGRATULATIONS.
Michael is a highly regarded pipe maker.
Very nice! Congratulations!
Mike is a really nice guy too. Very friendly and easy going. I’ll be seeing him again, I’m sure. He was going playing darts later. I might just have to challenge him to a game 😊
Amazing stuff. Great photos, great pipe. Good thread. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
