I recently reviewed John Ayelsbury's Coconut and gave it a rave review. I wish I could do so for Sweet Dreams (SD). To the nostrils, the tin note is full of flavour that recommends one to move swiftly to savor its contents. After two full smokes using two different pipes, first, an Aldo Morelli 665 and shortly after, a Giordano 14661 to ensure that the first pipe had not distorted the taste of the blend, I got the same results. My conclusion after each smoke in either pipe was that SD is quite sweetish and pleasant to the taste in the beginning, alluding to the wine and sherry which the tobacco is touted to contain. Latterly, my buds were treated to a not too nice chemical taste and after-taste that, I guess, came from the additives/flavoring used in the blend. And it was overpowering. In order to tone it down for the third attempt, I blended it with Mac Baren's HH Vintage Syrian (HH VS); the Latakia and Orientals in the HH VS mellowed the sweetness, spiced it up a bit, dampened the artificial flavoring and made the third smoke more bearable. I have to add that my blend is barely one month old and may prove a better smoke at a much later date after some aging. Or by continuing to blend it with another non-aromatic. I do realize, of course, that my 'findings' may well be contrary to the verdict of others who (may) love this product.
