Cornell & Diehl Golden Days of Yore
(2.55)
Every year Cornell & Diehl produces a Christmas blend inspired by a classic Christmas carol. For 2015, they've hearkened back to those "golden days" with Golden Days of Yore — a festive mix of red and bright Virginias, black Cavendish, dark-fired Kentucky, and Katerini... and more. A unique aromatic mixture, it's all married together with hints of ginger, nutmeg, allspice, cinnamon, and chocolate and topped with a dash of the best dark rum from Santa's secret stash.

does not do anything for me... no idea where the Orientals or the Kentucky is in the tin, do not get a read on any other of the flavors advertised either. It is a super boring Burley/Virginia/Cavendish without any character being added by this three components.

2020 batch review:
The first real snow of the season is on the ground and Christmas lights are going up around the block. I’m evaluating this blend with the season in mind, which matters for a novelty blend such as this one. It’s mildly aromatic and pleasant. It’s not a wet sticky glop of humectants and chemical flavoring. The base tobaccos are more robust than in the archetypical glop fest aromatic. It tastes like rich, spicy , woody, natural tobacco with a bit of added sweetness and subtle Christmas spice. The cocoa notes are most obvious to me, followed by the nutmeg/clove/cinnamon. Very subtle and unobtrusive. It’s a quality ,rich, lightly aromatic holiday blend and it does it’s job well. It’s a role player tobacco for a small part of the winter season and it plays it’s brief role well. I’ll burn through this tin over the next few weeks and enjoy it as another part of the holiday festivities. If you like full aromatics with less overt tobacco taste, try a sample from a friend before buying a sleigh full, as this one might not be aromatic enough for your tastes. Recommended for those who don’t enjoy typical full aromatics but want to dip their toes into novelty seasonal flavors without sacrificing real tobacco flavor. I can’t really evaluate room note as I smoke outside, but the scent on my jacket is somewhere between a less well accepted natural tobacco and “ generic pipe tobacco smell “ ( which I enjoy, it’s a beloved classic for a reason). Give it a test run before lightning up indoors at a crowded holiday party of non-smokers.

I'm in total agreement with "Liam Tyr (14) 2016-02-17 , review". Mainly a mild rum vanilla blend that burns so hot and bitey that I lost all tongue feeling after one bowl. Enough said.

I was wondering what I was missing here when I opened the tin, not a great deal of tin note and more of a cidery type aroma than Christmassy. lovely ribbon cut and maybe just a tad dry...however the smoke was very bitter, very high end Virginias and the casing almost undetectable! However after reading the bellow review I,ve jarred it and will try again when it has breathed.

Tin note is wonderful Christmas smells: Allspice , Cinnamon, clove, ginger and coco. Smells quite sweet as well. Mixture of medium and thick ribbon cut, bright leaf colors . Packs easily and the moisture level is just right. I usually am not a aromatic fan, but this one is really outstanding, all the flavors transfer into the smoke with no chemical taste at all. The lead flavors are the Orientals. Its much like Oriental express as a base then with many lite Christmas spice toppings. Burns quite fast and a bit on the hot side. Slowing your cadence will help with the flavors and the heat. This is not a goopy aromatic burns to a clean ash and the cavendish is just pinch. Nic hit is mild but the flavor is medium. Easley an all day smoke. 4 stars

Christmas blends are my favorite, I want to try them all, so I go into each Christmas blend with great expectations! This is for the 2020 release... The product description lists - hints of ginger, nutmeg, allspice, cinnamon, rum and chocolate. Opening the tin, what I smelled was tobacco and spices. The flavor I tasted was a bit of a combination of everything with nothing overpowering the other. This was a decent Christmas blend for me although it was a bit dry when opened and I didn't get the strong flavor notes I was expecting. I did not have any tounge-bite with this blend.

Very nice aromatic. I only got to try one bowl sample of this, but enjoyed it. Upon lighting I got a little harshness, but after that a spiced Christmas cookie or fruitcake flavor with a touch of rum came through, and was very nice. I'm definitely considering this for a future tin purchase now. Recommended.

This was not as flavorful as I wanted it to be. I want my holiday blends to be an in your face aromatic and this was not it. The flavor was nice, but just too subtle. Good, not great
