Upon opening the bag of Lane Limited 125th Anniversary I happily embraced the earthy notes coming from the bag. It almost smelt of fresh cut hay. The blend sustained earthy notes throughout the entire smoke. Initially I could smell a sweet casing but I cant put my finger on exactly what it is, it is almost a honey flavor. The blend as a whole is very mild and super light on the palate. The perique is almost non existent. Over all the blend is good, with ageing it certainly has potential.

Tin note of sugar, raisins and fresh hay. Tobacco is a ribbon and coarse cut of tan, brown and dark brown. Moisture content is good. Some pipe smokers will want to dry it out a bit. Burns moderate with a few relights. The strength is mild to medium and nic is mild. No flavoring detected. Taste is medium and moderately consistent, with notes of tangy dark dried fruit, sugar, spices, floral, fermented sour, sweet hay, figs, wood, earth, bready, savory sweet, tart and tangy citrus, mildly creamy, mildly spicy, a lemon grass background note, and a peppery retro. Virginia is leading with Perique supporting. Room note is tolerable, and aftertaste is great.

Somewhat disappointing, I was hoping for the slight premium over other bulk tobacco at this local shop I would get something special. Overall I found this blend to be pretty average without a lot of flavor. The Virginia is the most notable component with subtle bread notes but little sweetness. There is a bit of spice to the blend as well but not overwhelming. Easy to smoke and would make a good drive to work morning smoke.

One of the mildest VaPers I've smoked, Lane 125th is in the running for "VaPer Mild" of the year. The Perique content in this blend is just a tad above smattering and you are, basically, smoking a Virginia mixture. No problem, as this blend shows the better qualities of the "haylike" and "earthy" end of the Virginia spectrum. In the tin Lane 125th presents as a frumpy ribbon/flake mixture with a color range from medium brown to blond. You detect the presence of Perique in the higher register Virginia aroma that defines this blend. Every pipefull I smoked performed in the same manner: weak and wishy-washy in the top third, gaining strength and flavor in the middle third and becoming a definitional Virginia smoke in the bottom third. I am currently using Lane 125th in blending as a Virginia component and can easily recommend it at three stars.

Received samples at a pipe show. Smoked one and jarred the other.
The new sample was not terribly exciting. Decent flavor from the VA not much spice from the perique.. Easy to smoke.
6 months later it has smoothed out into a enjoyable VAPer. First half of the bowl seems VA led while the perique steps up in the later innings. Good value in Bulk. Get some and jar it you'll be glad you did
