Samuel Gawith Pure Louisiana Perique
(3.00)
Pure high quality ribbon cut Louisiana Perique. 100% Perique aged and fermented in hickory whiskey barrels for five years which gives it a fruity, slightly vinegary aroma. Cultivated by farmer Percy Martin in Louisiana it is considered the truffle of tobaccos. Predominately used for blending you would need to be brave to smoke it on its own!

On its own, it's smokable but to keep it enjoyable one needs some precautions. First a small pipe for a short smoke no more than 20 minutes, then slow puffing is required. The taste is earthy/musty and peppery for the most part, it's also surprisingly creamy and slow burning. I'm pretty sure that if smoked longer, the nicotine level skyrockets and becomes disagreeable.
As a mixer, this is where it really shines, 10% and more and you will find the flavor profile above, around 5% and you will make your Virginias sing another tune. It will increase the nicotine level slightly but also the dry fruit aspect, you know... what we call figs, prunes, raisins.
So I highly recommend this tobacco as a mixer first but also on its own, in the right state of mind, especially for Burley, Semois and Brun smokers.
