I had never been to Boston before so I was very excited to check out Peretti's. I took my picture with the statue of Edgar Allen Poe and went in to a much smaller shop than I was expecting. I picked out a English estate prince and explained to the clerk I wanted a VaPer heavy on the Per. Their selection is so vast that it is hard to actually find a blend your self. He even explained to me they will custom blend for their customer. I didn't even know this kind of tobaconist still existed.

I was handed a bag that contained a few pieces of beef jerky that smelled of dried fruits, raisins, prunes, and earthy Virginias. He said I was going to love it. I bought a pound. It is a bit damp and could probably use some drying time which I have never done. I'm too lazy to care. It is a pretty special blend that I will always have some in the cellar. It is a bit one dimensional but in a good VaPer kind of way. I get a little enthusiastic when I smoke and the fact that it is probably a little damper than ideal it does steam my tounge so that's not great but that perique kick and pepper gets me what I am looking for. Great stuff less a bit of a bite. I'm sure this will be amazing with some age.

Light woody tin note with hints of prunes, and day old cut grass. The flavor is woody and earthy with hints of nuttiness from the Burley. There is a bready quality to the smoke from start to end. The perique is lightly applied an I get dark stewed fruits and only a hint of pepper. The VA's provide a citrusy background and a hint of vegetal grassiness. I am a big fan of this blend, the description I provided may not really do the actual experience justice. I have also noticed that this tobacco can vary greatly from pipe to pipe, all have been good but cobs seem to be the sweet spot for me. I would also recommend some dry time, particularly in a briar.

Another sample from my dear british friend! What a lovely presentation this tobacco has...this is a "Crumble Cake FLAKE"...the flakes aren't very dense, you can crumble them in a Krumble Kake fashion with your fingers to fine crumbles...its a joy to handle his tobacco, really! Reminds me of "Tom´s Plug" by Motzek, which is also a "Krumble Kake Plug", but different in taste tho.

The unburnt aroma is just as beautiful as the presenation and handling! Fruity-sour, peppery-spicy with some fermented quality to it. A tad moist, but can be smoked right away and the impatient Va/Bur/Per fan I am, I did pack a bowl without letting it dry.

Takes the fire well and instatly starts to build up a delicious aroma. King Crimsons Epitaph was underscoring this lovely aroma in the background. Sweet nuts, stoved fruits, raisins, pepper and spice. With a somewhat toasty, bready quality to it. Some earthiness joins in to give it some more body. The interplay of toast-y nuts, fruits, raising and tangy, peppery spice just works for me... very delicious! I just had some Motzek Strang and was disappointed I wouldnt get to smoke more of it...LJ Peretti isn't 100% the same, but comes pretty close and is a very worthy replacement.

A wonderful blend from start to finish. Presentation, handling, tin note, aroma when smoked... this is a rounded smoking experience and an enrichment for any Va/Per and Va/Bur/Per Aficionado. I also might see Burley enthusiasts find joy in this. 4/4 stars and any accolades I can give to it!

Holy Mary, Sweet Mother of Jesus! This stuff is AMAZING! I recently placed for first order with LJ Peretti when I saw the description of Blend 52 that sounded interesting. Not being able to order just one of their well regarded tobaccos, I picked another to add to my order. Upon opening the paint can of No. 8 Slices, I was immediately welcomed by the periquey goodness of its contents. Not being able to stand the torture another second, I rubbed out a slice and packed my brand new Icarus briar, put fire to it and nearly drowned in my own saliva it is so good! I am not good at describing all of the flavors, but I do know a great tobacco when I smoke it, and this is one!

I am not usually a big fan of most Vapers but this tobacco is special. The addition of Peretti’s burley which is clearly present throughout the bowl separates it from the field. It adds a depth and smoothness that elevates the Virginia and Perique. It will become a part of my rotation and is very cellar worthy.

I have smoked pipes for over thirty years this is perhaps the best Virginia, Burly, and Perique blend that I have experienced. This blend is exactly what I have been seeking in pipe tobacco for all of my years as a pipe smoker.

Peretti's No. 8 slice offers a medium-full flavor and is my y new favorite tobacco. This tobacco fills the surroundings with a pleasant aroma. It is not heavy on nicotine making it perfect as an all-day smoke.

This tobacco strikes a nice balance of aromas. The Perique is not too strong. The burn is even, smooth, cool, and full-flavored. After my initial tin, I purchased an entire pound.

Since purchasing a smaller initial amount, I have smoked this blend consistently. This is an amazing blend that improves with age. I will be purchasing more of this blend to cellar for future enjoyment.

Perect for a nice relaxing evening smoke. Add a couple of fingers of Scotch, or your beverage of choice to a tumbler, relax and enjoy because life is simply too brief to go without this tobacco blend any longer.

If I were to find myself on a desert island, this would be the only tobacco I would need. A most enjoyable smoke.

1/4 inch thick, crosscut, rough, crumble flake (if there is such a thing). Ruggedly good looking, easy to prepare. Moisture is perfect for immediate smoking in mind.

Pouch aroma is nutty, earthy, woody, musty and sour.

Upon lighting, initial flavors of hay and grass stand out the most. Its sour with bright citrus. While I detect a slight topping, I don't think its cocoa. It possesses a sorghum molasses sweet tanginess. Burns clean and cool, leaves very little moisture. It does leave a spicy feeling on the palate, but it's not tongue bite. Probably one of the better Peretti blends I have smoked to date.

This is among my favorite blends. It took a while, more than a few bowls, to start to appreciate the complexity. It has an odd sort of funky smell when you open the tin, but don't be put off. Its mostly burley, I think, but with a fair amount of Virginia too. There are some very mild flavorings, possibly cocoa, and maybe even a touch of deer tongue, but could be something else. They are far in the background. It comes in krumble cake form. The taste grows on you. Trust me. Eventually what you have is a strong burley nutty taste combined with probably some stoved Va and some red virgina. But i am guessing. Might have unflavored cavendish too (like McClellands Navy Cavendish). The Perique is hardly noticable but i suspect provides ballast. The strength is at least medium. The nic hit medium, if not a touch more. Its a cool smoke, and very consistent. Its an addictive blend from the great folks at Peretti. One of a kind.

Peretti no 8 slice - Man ,this blend is loaded with flavor . The Burley Perique and Virginias are there together the whole bowl.Nutty ,bready , fruity and spicy . A little cocoa ,molasses and citrus amd plum .i am not a huge Perique guy but it sings in this one ! I see a 8 oz paint can in my future .I recommend not drying this out too much .no bite . Almost medium nic hit . Looking forward to trying the 5 more tobaccos of lJ Peretti i received recently . They are 3 for 3 so far . Very satisfying and delicious blend ! 4

What a terrific flake!!

I made a couple of purchases from the guys in Boston recently and this one really hits the mark. Just a terrific smoking experience....

Very enjoyable Virginia based tobacco and the Perique brings a spicy fruity note...cocoa essences throughout.... Terrific with a strong cup of coffee or a big stout...

Tangy and citrusy with a strong tobacco backbone..

Highly recommended!!
