Rattray Terry Red
(2.31)
A pleasant blend of light Carolina, Virginia and black cavendish. Rum, ginger and cherry gives a mild flavor for everyone will enjoy. This mixture burns very well and dry in the pipe.

I expected to be disapointed by this blend. I was not. Frankly, I find this to be the best Cherry blend I've ever smoked...not too sweet and it tastes like tobacco. Most Cherry blends make me feel like I'm smoking Vick's Cherry Lozenges. Not the Rattray's version.

I think its one of the best aromatics in the market. Its mild and if smoked properly there is no tongue bite. All my family members like its aroma. So if you are an aromatic smoker you should try this.

A delicious smell in the tin, an easy burn, cool smoke, and the best taste of those that I've tried so far. Albeit I've only tried three!

I have never been a fan of "cherry" tobacco's. In fact I have always been surprised by the popularity of blends like Middleton's Cherry, etc., as the mixture of fruit/tobacco just does not appeal to me. Rattray's Terry Red not only changed my opinion but has been a stable of my regular rotation for several years. The flavor is excellent and is greatly complimented by the Ginger top notes. Furthermore, the aroma is very pleasant yet not overpowering. One of my complaints with "cherry" tobaccos has also been the overpowering aroma that accompanied them. Not so with Terry Red. I have received frequent compliments from others on the aroma. This is also a very good indoor smoke when around other non-smokers. In my opinion I suggest smoking it in a mid-sized bowl. This tobacco does not do well in small bowls as it burns too hot for my taste. If you stay away from cherry tobacco blends and prefer a good latakia blend like Dunhill's Early Morning Pipe or a strong burley flavored blend like Half & Half try this and you may see it fits surprisingly well amongst your other favorites.

I guess I'll be the dissenting vote here. I started smoking Terry Red in an effort to find something with a top note to smoke around some uppity nonsmokers. It has since, however, found its way into my regular rotation on it s own merits. If you don't like a little "candy" once in a while, this probably isn't for you. The smoke is sweet as only good cavendish can be with billows of creamy smoke, laid down on a solid foundation of mellow Vas for a mild but tasty smoke. The rum and cherry make for a crowd-pleasing top note, but don't detract from the flavor, while the ginger adds just a touch of spiciness. It needs to be treated gently, or it burns hot, but unlike some other aromatics is not goopy, and burns dry and gunk free, although it can turn wet and sour toward the bottom if smoked too hot.
Final thoughts: A quality tobacco worthy of the Rattray name, one of the highlights of the Aromatic spectrum.
