Robert McConnell - Pure Virginia.
The opening of a fresh tin reveals a fine to mid-size ribbon, that's medium brown, and of a great hydration. I don't recognize much in the way of an aroma, it smells like a standard Virginia.
The hydration makes for easy ignition, and it gives an okay smoke; I'm sure many folks will love it, but for me it's a bit too boring to be smoked straight. To me, the smoke's a mid-ground Virginia one. What I mean is it doesn't have much citrus sharpness or causticity. The most abundant flavour's quite a calm hay-like one. The burn's good from P.V., but it can become a touch warm. Like in the aroma from the tin, I don't recognize anything that's 'out of the ordinary' with the flavour, for a Va; there isn't anything to suggest an additive of any kind.
The nicotine's quite mild, and the room-note's alright: nothing special, but nothing bad.
I rate Robert McConnell with only two stars, but I know there will be a lot of smokers that would give it four!
Somewhat recommended.

I had a sample tasting before applying to a blend. Would rate it as a mediocre virginia.
Right as I opened the tin it was pretty clear that I wouldn't enjoy this very much - it's a loose cut unlike other Pure blends. I'd much rather get this also as ready rubbed. So it was hard to smoke this cool and thus there isn't much to say about the taste. It's a bright basic virginia without too much going on, though it's not harsh by any means. It burned dry but needed some relighting. Straight from the tin that is.
This goes strictly for blending after sampling since I may not smoke it by itself again. It will give my blends some brightness and definition, if it blends well with ready rubbed ones!

Tin note is almost absent. Smells mostly like hay, lemon zest and simple tobacco leaf. It’s dull.
The cut is a very short ribbon, almost going to granulated cut. Mostly golden with very few light brown pieces. The moisture is more towards dry.
Taste is neither citrusy nor sweet, it’s more hay, tea, bready and nutty. Has a nuttiness similar to a burley.
It’s a simple tobacco, and it’s not a big deal since this is meant for blending I guess, so perhaps it’s better in a blend than smoked straight.
It’s a mild to medium strength with a mild to medium taste. Just take it if you plan to blend.
