Mac Baren HH Bold Kentucky
(3.70)
From the website in English: This is the strongest pipe tobacco among the blends in the Mac Baren range and is not recommended for inexperienced pipe smokers. HH Bold Kentucky contains a high amount of the finest dark fired Kentucky from the USA and Africa, and is combined with bright Virginias to soften the taste just a bit. Still the taste is of earthiness with just a slight nuance of sweetness as the underlying taste, which comes from the leaf itself and the hot press, which marries the different tobaccos together. Like all the other HH blends this blend has only an absolute minimum of casing and no top flavor at all.
Notes: Released in November 2014.

My favourite so far, full and rich tobaccotaste, burns allright after drying it for an hour. Very high in nicotine, actually got a bit nauseous after smoking a full bowl. Might be my standard pipe tobacco.

Tin note of barbeque, sour, and stewed fruit. Tobacco flakes are dark brown and black and easily rubs out. Tobacco is a little moist, but not wet enough to need drying. Burns slow with a few relights. The strength is strong and nic is strong. (It required a beverage to continue to smoke). No flavoring detected. Taste is full and mostly consistent with notes of dry smoky, very spicy, herbal sour, very earthy, toasted bitter nuts, very woody, floral, leather, spices, mild barbecue, a mildly sweet lemon grass background note, and a very peppery retro. Kentucky is leading with Virginias supporting. Room note is strong, and aftertaste is awesome.

BBQ! As an Arkansan, that’s what hit me first. The tin note is of a nice, summertime, bbq wood.
The flavor and room note are there with it! Great smoke for around the pit!
Strong, Smokey, and sweet (not aromatic sweet, of course). The natural flavor of the tobacco pulls to the front while the Kentucky fired swells around it all. Nice!

Bold is right. Too bold for me. This is the first Kentucky I have tried. The flavor is not too bad. Some hints of licorice to me. I tried big pipe, small pipe, loose and hard packed. I like strong tobacco, but this is over my limit. I also found it harsh on my throat. Only for someone who wants the boldest.

A very fitting name for this bomb of a blend! The retrohale can be punishing at first but as the bowl progresses and you adapt to the needs of this high quality tobacco, you enjoy it more and more. Not for the faint-hearted.
