Blend notes from Tobacco Reviews website: “The choicest blend of Tobold Hornblower himself! Straight from Middle Earth, Old Toby brings together the finest Virginia and Burley leaves with a generous sugar casing and a dash of Louisiana Perique. A treat for your senses and your companions!”
The blend used to be called ‘Old Toby’ until (according to people referencing unknown other people) the estate of JRR Tolkien decided to contest the naming convention.
Note (above) that the Country Squire notes do not mention Perique, and frankly, I don’t taste any Perique in the blend. I do get the caramel, the vanilla, and maybe some of the nutmeg. Like most or many Aromatics, the base tobacco is some combination of Virginia and Burley.
Tombigbee is a decent Aromatic. It is ‘like’ Lane Limited’s 1Q, Sutliff’s Black Kathy, MacBaren’s 7 Seas Gold (or Black), or Sutliff’s Molto Dolce. The base tobacco is of good quality, the taste is consistent, and there is no harshness.

"Old Toby... Finest weed in the Southfarthing!" - And the Country Squire definitely created a blend worthy of this claim. Old Toby (now rebranded to "Tombigbee" because the Tolkien Estate has become bullies after Christopher's passing) is the best aromatic I've ever had.
Aromas reminiscent of cinnamon rolls, caramel and some kind of candy leave little room for the notes from the tobaccos themselves to emerge. Contrary to many aromatics, there is no artificial taste, the topping remains consistent in taste and strength throughout the bowl, and it doesn't burn hot or bite even when pushed. Thick smoke and great burning quality although the tobacco is sticky and moist - a quality that neither years in the cellar nor drying can change, so load it up as is.
Will goop and ghost your pipe. Will make the room smell amazing, non-smokers will want you around. A perfect aromatic all year round. But it strikes me specifically like a blend for the holidays. Will always want to have this one around - and I don't particularly smoke aromatics much...

First off, the smell out of the bag had me excited to try it. Sweet, with a hint of maple syrup. Wasn't very goopy, and while i didnt dry it, i think it could have benefited from doing so. The char light tasted exactly like it smelled. What is amazing is the bready grass note of the virgina came through complementing the sweet maple notes. I tasted pancakes in maple syrup. Well done Country Squire!

This might be my favorite house blend. Very pleasant and moist with a hint of chocolate overtones. The smell is fantastic. I was surprised. I am usually not an aromatic tobacco kind of guy, but I really enjoyed the over all experience of this one. I can thoroughly see a Hobbit with a pipe down to his furry toes enjoyed this on a fine spring day in the Shire.

What a delicious blend.
It’s nice and sweet while still maintaining some peppery notes from the Perique. The Burley lends itself well to this blend with an added nuttiness and toasted flavor.
Easily an all day smoke that I can see myself reaching for again and again.
