Sutliff Tobacco Company Black Cherry B23

(2.09)
Toasted black cavendish forms the base for this blend with bright cavendish and Virginia added to create a very easy smoking tobacco. A subtle and very smooth cherry flavor is applied to the mixture for sweetness and an incredibly enjoyable aroma.

I bought a pouch of this stuff in a recent order to make some Hobbit's Weed, since P&C was out of Lane's Very Cherry, I figured it would be a decent substitute (in spite of my dislike for Sutliff products). Well, it was indeed a Cherry Aromatic, but one with a more generic presentation, giving off a less sweet, medice-forward bag aroma. It was not terribly inviting.

The paper thin flakes were a bit sticky to the touch, resisted the lighter, and caused minor dampness in the bowl. The cherry flavor came across somewhat, but was never tart or sugary - perhaps Black Cherry is meant to be deeper? Wasn't completely artificial, but nothing I would ever grab when craving a Cherry smoke. As expected, nothing here is terribly strong or Nicotine heavy, didn't appear to be a ghosting culprit, yet nothing I would consider an all day smoke, as it left a slightly harsh finish.

In terms of a Hobbit Weed mixer, it worked sorta, but the end result wasn't as juicy, and detracted from the BCA's Chocolate/Vanilla sweetness.

Subtle Cherry notes and smells great but pretty bland in the smoke. You can easily taste the Black Cavendish but I think it would be better if I could taste the cherry. the tin note is natural smelling cherry, no Cough syrup here. Smokes quite well.

Sutliff Tobacco Co. - Black Cherry B23.

In pouch sits a fairly coarse mixture with a higher amount of brown Cavendish and Virginia compared to black Cavendish; 2/3 brown to 1/3 black. The pouch note clarifies what type of smoke's coming up: a potent cherry one. Moistness is good.

I find the cherry addition is more involved with the flavour than the tobaccos. It's easily above medium, to my palate. It tastes 'false', sharp and too sweet. What tobaccos I get are quite 'dull' tasting; the topping would require a piquant set of tobaccos to get noticed, where as these are quite hum-drum. However it's refreshing to have an aromatic where the palate isn't awash with sticky, vanilla, black Cavendish. It burns medium in temperature, steadily, but can give me a bite.

Nicotine: mild. Room-note: pleasant.

Black Cherry? A two star aromatic:

Somewhat recommended.

MEH! A bland mix, the cherry was mild, too mild, no complexity. It also started turning sour towards the bottom of the bowl. The moisture level was good and it burned well, Room note and pouch note were underwhelming.

Bought in bulk.

Slight cherry smell. Smoked well enough. Not a very strong cherry flavor it was hardly noticeable compared to other cherry blends I have had. Other Sutliff aromatics have decent flavoring but the dark cherry has a very mild cherry taste. More tobacco than cherry. If that’s your thing then check it out.

Cherry blends as rule always sound great but tend to disappoint. Most I've tried burn hot and taste artificial. This one I found better than most as the flavor was there from start to finish, didn't overwhelm and had no tongue bite. Burn was consistent down to a fine gray ash. Seems to do best in a larger bowl pipe. Not great, but not bad.
