GQ Tobaccos Cherry Menthol
(4.00)
What began as a request for menthol pipe tobacco turned out to be on the difficult side for Glynn to make. Not being the biggest fan of menthol the sampling was not the highlight of the process. Made from a classic American style aromatic with black cavendish and mixed Virginias. The creamy and cool base is topped of with fresh cherries and a cool and crisp menthol.

GQ Tobaccos - Cherry Menthol.
Cherry menthol pipe tobacco... who ever thought of such a thing?!! The smell from this brings something imminently to mind, Cherry cough/cold lozenges, a tad peculiar for a tobacco but hey ho! The mix is constructed of mostly Virginia's with a smaller amount of real chunky pieces of Black Cav' in there. It's a little too moist so will require a short airing period.
Once lit I feel quite nonplussed. I really wasn't expecting to like this as menthol tobacco doesn't float my boat as such but I find it to be a rewarding experience, even if it's a touch strange! Don't expect the menthol to be as much as you get in a menthol cigarette, it's present however it doesn't take as much of the flavour up and lacks that 'cold' quality from menthol cigarettes. The cherry isn't heavy weight either, it's easy to notice but nowhere near as gloopy as you normally find cherry tobaccos can be. This has a hearty dose of N in it, quite different as usually I find cherry aromatics are mild in that field, this seems to be almost a new breed of cherry aro'! It doesn't bite me but if it's drawn harshly the menthol gives my tongue a sharp sensation, it's best when sipped gently.
I think this is one of the strangest/different blends I have filled one of my pipes with, you have got to try some!
For this reason of incongruity it has to score four stars!!!
