The tangy, dark fruity, earthy, woody red Virginia stands out over the grassy, tart and tangy citrusy golden Virginia. The brown sugary black cavendish adds to the mix in a complimentary role. The pistachio topping has a little depth, but it is toned down by the vanilla, and both mostly sublimate the tobaccos. The vanilla starts out light, and then becomes a little more obvious before you reach the half way point. The strength is mild. The taste level is just shy of the center of mild to medium. Hardly has any nicotine. No chance of bite or harshness. Burns clean, cool and slightly slow as the tobacco is lightly moist. The flavor has a little inconsistency, and slightly weakens near the finish. Leaves a little moisture in the bowl, and requires a few relights. Has a very pleasant, lightly lingering after taste and room note. Can be an all day smoke. The name of the blend would have been more accurate had vanilla not been added, and whether or not that fits one’s flavor profile is a matter of personal preference. Three stars for what it is.

Peter Stokkebye – Pistachio – 4/5 – Completely inoffensive aromatic Cavendish
If you are in a brick and mortar, and they have a jar labeled “Pistachio”, this is likely it. The bag I bought had probably been around for a bit, however, the tobacconist had very good jars for it, so it was still quite moist and smelled very nice.
On opening the bag, it did, in fact, smell like pistachios, but not overwhelmingly so. It smelled friendly and harmless. A typical aromatic. I let mine dry out a bit before trying it.
On smoking this tobacco, it smoked exactly as I thought it would. Just fine. Completely inoffensive. A blend of decent quality Virginia and Cavendish, with a topping of pistachio flavor.
So why did I give this 4/5? Because it’s so inoffensive and easy! Don’t want to ever relight it? PS Pistachio. Sipping it? Perfectly mellow. Trying to smoke it so hot it might crack your bowl? Perfectly mellow. Want to practice smoke rings? Go for it, perfectly mellow. Want your mouth to taste completely pleasant with an after taste of pistachio? PS Pistachio. Accidentally inhale it? Probably won’t even catch in your throat. Worried about nicotine strength? What nicotine? Where? Smoke it on an empty stomach if you like.
The innocent nature of this tobacco makes it something I’d recommend to someone who had never smoked tobacco of any kind before. There’s no bite. None. I tried. I really abused this tobacco. I took it in a back alley, sucker punched it and demanded its wallet. It gave me its wallet and thanked me for the opportunity.
I like full flavored smoke. I like VaPer. I love Mediterranean leaves mixed with old, skanky Virginias. I like tobaccos that can, and will, hurt your feelings. That said, PS Pistachio tastes nice, smells nice, won’t bite, won’t ghost your pipe and is inexpensive.

This is one I probably would never have tried if it weren't included in a monthly sampler. For one, I do not smoke many aromatics these days. Secondly, I'm just not a big pistachio flavor fan...love the actual nuts, just not foods flavored as pistachio. But this blend is surprisingly good on both fronts. Moisture content is perfect, great bag aroma, and no problems keeping it lit. The taste is as most reviewers describe - nutty pistachio flavor with some saltiness and a faint hint of vanilla. A good example of how tasty an aromatic can be while still forgoing the gobs of PG and overdone toppings. Very balanced and just barely sweet! It's got me wondering what tobacco these negative reviewers smoked. But hey, we all got our preferences. Give it a try if you enjoy mildly flavored aromatics. It's definitely unique, and won't hit hard on the old wallet...I will purchase again. Good job Stokkebye.

Pipe: a Georg Jensen Oliver (straight), no filter
I picked up 20 grams at one of my local tobacconists to try it out as my first taste of a Stokkebye blend.
A nicely balanced, mildly aromatic blend providing satisfaction after the smoke. Not too heavily cased, but does come through with a pleasant nutty-vanilla flavour. The first third of the bowl was not as enjoyable as the remainder of the smoke, as the flavour matured and became more interesting with notes of toasted chestnut shells. The pipe hasn't sufficient cake yet, so there maybe some influence here, but,I could not discern a distinctly pistachio flavour--but then again, I don't believe the name of a blend does justice to the flavour qualities of many tobaccos.
Very dry smoke, no bite, and burned almost completely to the bottom of the bowl with only a few relights. No moist dottle whatsoever. Wife judged the room note to be "ok, but still tobacco". I guess this is because of the dominant virginia in the blend. Nonetheless, this is a satisfying smoke that I will probably keep around-if only because I can by a 1/4 oz anytime.
I recommend giving it a try for those who are looking for an aromatic that doesn't have an excessively sweet flavour.

I guess tastes change over time. I used to be a diehard Latakia fan and over the years have slowly gravitated to high-end Burley blends. Then, I found myself trying Aromatics as a change of pace.
I generally don't like "sweet" tobaccos because I find they get annoying. Sort of like sucking on a Butterscotch candy for hours on end.
Stokkebye's Pistachio is surprisingly nice. Extremely easy to light and keep lit and smokes dry with no goop. A real pleasure in that regard. The taste is slightly sweet/nutty. Less sweet that Stokkebye's Nougat. Zero bite. You can also taste the Virginias in the background (although this is by no means a Virginia tobacco in the purist sense). And with almost all aromatics, the room aroma is great.
Give this a try. Nothing to not like.

Peter Stokkebye - Pistachio (No. 27).
I opened this a few weeks ago but never reviewed it as I thought there was a problem here as no new reviews were appearing. The description reads 'one moderately sweet, mild smoking blend', and that sums it up; but I'll try and write more!
The pouch smells sweet, a definite aromatic. As this was from Tobaccopipes.com where they always ensure the pouch is tightly rolled it's still a little moist; but not damp. There's a lot more brown pieces than black; like the picture here!
The vanilla comes over more so than the pistachios, at first, making it a nice partner for a sweet coffee. After halfway the pistachio flavour becomes clearer, toning down the sticky vanilla, somewhat. The tobacco flavour's mostly Virginia, fruity and sharp, with a tiny amount of black Cav. So far so good? Sure, if sipped gently. But if it's forced the temperature becomes too high; so approach with ease!
Nicotine: quite mild. Room-note: quite nice.
No. 27? A pleasant smoke, deserving 3 stars:
Recommended.

This is one of those tobaccos that if you smoke it for the first time, there's mixed feelings about it. Then you cellar it and a couple of years or so, later you load a bowl and think, this is a damn good smoke. I purchased 8 ounces of it via an online sale, and I'm happy I did. Nutty, with not only a natural sweetness, but the sweetness from the topping is just right. Ignites pretty easy, and stayed lit in both my Dagner cob and Neerup Poker Briar. It's definitely a "slow smoker" (sipper), and has a tremendous room note. I was enjoying a bowl around a friend who's a non-smoker and he kept remarking how good it smelled and "I might have to try this pipe smoking thing". A tiny bit of bite, but nothing major, and if you sip it, it finishes well on the palate. Pretty good tobacco!!

I tried this one today and it delivered a nice smoke. There was a nutty, kind of salty, smell in the pouch that somewhat resembled pistachio with a touch of vanilla. After packing this into a Radice bulldog, I enjoyed this nice blend with no relights. I picked up the nutty saltiness early and it stayed throughout. The vanilla came in about half way and the sweet and saltiness played back and forth until the very end. I wouldn't puff too hard on this one as I think it could bite a bit if pushed. In all, a very enjoyable smoke that is a nice change of pace for the aromatic fan.

If I use my imagination I think I can sometimes taste pistachio. I like this blend. Smooth and mild with a nice pleasing room note.
Had to relight several times in my little corn cob. I'll be sad when my 10g sample bag is burned through.
Would buy this again.
