Peretti English No.110
(3.13)
A pleasant English-style blend with the rich flavors of fine Oriental and Latakia tobaccos, but a sweeter blend than most.

The last of the Peretti samples, this one is a lighter colored affair but still mottled. Nice bag aroma - very clean and enticing with a delicate richness. Ribbon cut and easy to load.
So what does someone smoke that finds Royal Blend (and Tashkent, and others) lacking in sweetness but doesn't want to give up too much of what makes those blends great? This one. The orientals are subdued but not muted, if that makes any sense. The latakia is light but everpresent and it melds with the orientals in a seamless manner. Just like Peretti is known for. Where this one hugely succeeds for me is the sweetness afforded by the Virginias and a hint of some kind of topping. The topping is masterfully applied in that it's noticeable but I can't tell what it is... nor am I sure it's really there. So it's one of those "is it topped or isn't it" kind of blends. This blend has the sweetness the others lack while still giving me most of the oriental and a condimental portion of latakia. Yet, this isn't just a morning smoke for me. Granted, it doesn't work after a big meal but any other time, this hits the spot. Reminds me of PipeWorks and Wilke's #10, and I wish I had reordered that when I last thought about it so I could compare the two back to back. I'll be correcting both shortages immediately. This blend places the latakia where it should be in my personal wheelhouse and if you enjoy your lat in the background along with a healthy dose of mouthwatering orientals and that blessed sweetness that excellent Virginia brings, wait no longer.
To sum up, Peretti is a master blender, no question. Some of them work for me and some don't, but anyone interested in blending genius should take a run thru as much of the Peretti catalog as they can. I'm glad I did.

This is one of those blends that helped me cross over into English Blend Country many years ago.
Upon opening, one is greeted by a predominatley brown english cut, interlaced with lighter and black tobacco cut in the same manner.
The aroma is that of a light-spice and woodsy scent. The blend packs easily into the bowl and at most, needs just one re-light. In the initial quarter of the bowl the orientals seem to lead with virginia and latakia taking a back-seat. By the half-way point, a certain sweetness has crept in but not in an overpowering manner, it just lets you know it is there.
Although the "boys" at L.J.'s would not divulge the exact tobacco used to accomplish this, I am thinking it is a matured virginia that does the trick here.
In the last half, the orientals start to drift a little farther back and the latakia becomes more apparent.
This is another one of those Classic Blends that L.J.'s does in such a Terrific, Balenced Way

This is a very enjoyable "light latakia" English blend. The Orientals are predominant, but what I like is how the latakia is always present throughout the bowl---even though this is a light latkia blend. Very nicely done. The latakia perfectly spices the orientals and virginia. It's been my experience many of the "light" latakia blends I've tried often the vitamin L winds up being almost non-tasteable. Not this one.
I was going to give this blend three stars. However, this morning I smoked a bowl on the back porch, on a beautiful summer morning, drinking coffee and reading the paper. The belnd was just excellent!
For what it is worth, this is my fiftieth review since I started moking pipes back in 2008.
