Peretti Blend W

(3.20)
A medium-strength, slow-burning, cool-smoking blend. Very smooth with a nut-like flavor. Because of its smoking qualities, it gives a mild effect.
Notes: A blend of dense cube-cut burley with only a gentle touch of latakia. Blend ‘W’ is a solid blast of classic Peretti burley flavor with an added dimension. The latakia brings out the nut-like quality of the burley. On paper, it’s simple. In the bowl, it works oh so well.

An excellent cube-cut burley, mixed with a scant amount of Latakia. Blend W tastes lightly sweetened and it gives off a subtle licorice flavor and a floral high note that’s quite similar to other Peretti burleys. The use of the Latakia is spot on. It is moderately applied, I am thinking no more that 5-7 percent, but its taste and presence is noticeable if you’re looking for it. The licorice note coming off the burley and the taste of the Latakia strike a unique chord, and the overall effect is a smoke that’s creamy, sweet and nutty, spiked with an herbaceous bouquet of anise and aromatic wood smoke.

Blend W burns slow and cool at an even pace with no bite and very little spice. Like most cube-cut burleys it can get a bit hot when pushed, but this is easily avoidable.

I have always said that Peretti has a way with burley mixtures. One does not need to look much further than Blend DD and their seasonal Thanksgiving Day to experience the excellence of their craft. However, I am also a fan of their English mixtures and Blend W is a deft combination that displays their talent for both genres in a single offering.

I found this blend very unique and special. The flavor is Burley and appears to have some type of very light additive? It is remarkably delicious! I was looking for a slow burning cube cut blend that delivers a long smoke. Loaded the Ascorti and slow sipped 25 minutes before a re-light and a fine ash finish. Just ordered more. I primarily am an English man but W is now high on my rotation list. Peretti's is pipe tobacco for the Gods!

W is the result of the marriage of Peretti's excellent plug cut Burley, a touch of Virginia, and enough Latakia for you to know it is there. It is indeed smooth, rich, almost creamy, with a nut like flavor. I don't believe there is any casing on this blend. However, I do believe it has some deer tongue in it. Whatever it is, it lends a mild sweetness. I experienced no harshness or bite either.

I love the granulated cut of Peretti's Burley blends. They are easy to pack, easy to smoke, and burn very cool. Just as advertised.

If you are a Burley lover, and you have never tried Latakia, this would make a splendid introduction. This would make a great outdoor blend for when the weather turns cool, and is smokable in the middle of a humid Florida summer (in the evening mind you). A nice ,old fashioned American blend, from a world class tobacco shop.
