G. L. Pease Cairo
(3.11)
Cairo is a wonderfully complex mixture of red, orange and bright Virginia tobaccos, exotic Oriental leaf, and just a whisper of perique. The flavor is naturally sweet, slightly nutty, delicately spicy and rich. Subtle citrus-like notes harmoniously support the more robust flavors of the darker Virginias. A medium bodied tobacco with a delicate aroma, Cairo will satisfy Virginia lovers and the connoisseur of Oriental mixtures alike.
Notes: From GL Pease: Cairo is one of my favorite cities in the near-East, perhaps even the world. When I was there, the energy of the place inspired me in ways I'd never imagined. This tobacco has a distinctly Oriental character, reminiscent of the spice markets in the bazaar. What else could I call it?
Cairo was introduced in March, 2000

I'm surprised this blend gets only three stars on these pages. Far more interesting than "traditional" Virginia blends, this tobacco is should be tried by anyone who enjoys Virgina blends. Unlike many Virginia's, there is no tongue bite. A real treat!

GL Pease-Cairo 4 stars Cairo is my absolute favorite non-Latakia blend. And when I'm not smoking Dunhill 965 or Odyssey, this is the one I turn to. Cairo has the most remarkable warm, rich, camel color and sweet, complex, aroma. I often find myself just opening the tin just to marvel at it. As indicated by others thus far, Cairo is unique, and comparing it to anything else would be both difficult and senseless. It is perfectly behaved and very tasty; bright, rich, and spicy. The key to the blend is the hint of Perique, peeking out every so often, keeping things interesting. This is one that everyone should at least try. My highest praises!

Myself - I think this is top grade smoke, resinous & sweet virginias , spicy orientals & a splash of perique- Outstanding!. No two bowls are ever quite the same. The taste is malty & burnt caramel-ish(common to high grade Va's in my humble opinion) kinda soft ,subtle, mild yet rich. Both sweet & spicy- works well. generally hard to describe but I think those who smoke it would understand what I mean. No chance of bite with this. Just finished my first tin & endeavouring to buy more. very impressed.
