G. L. Pease Cairo
(3.11)
Cairo is a wonderfully complex mixture of red, orange and bright Virginia tobaccos, exotic Oriental leaf, and just a whisper of perique. The flavor is naturally sweet, slightly nutty, delicately spicy and rich. Subtle citrus-like notes harmoniously support the more robust flavors of the darker Virginias. A medium bodied tobacco with a delicate aroma, Cairo will satisfy Virginia lovers and the connoisseur of Oriental mixtures alike.
Notes: From GL Pease: Cairo is one of my favorite cities in the near-East, perhaps even the world. When I was there, the energy of the place inspired me in ways I'd never imagined. This tobacco has a distinctly Oriental character, reminiscent of the spice markets in the bazaar. What else could I call it?
Cairo was introduced in March, 2000

For me this is a very light tobacco . I tend to smoke fast and hot , so it takes concentration on my part to keep this tobacco smoking cool . The point of it going out is where the flavors are most enjoyable for me , so I smoke it extra slow . I also find that I need to pack it a little tighter than most . An excellent tobacco for the VA smoker .

Since I only transfer bulk tobacco purchases to a pouch, I found the narrow, cylindrical can problematic for packing large bowled pipes by my usual technique. However, the tobacco is what really counts and this one is a winner. The mositure content is perfect right from the can. No bite and a mild, sweet taste dominated by the VAs but with hints of orientals. Great to the last puff. Pack this blend loosely in a large bowl pipe or expect many relights. Enjoy a wonderful smoke.

G.L. Pease Cairo
The first thing that hit me when I opened the can was how light in color this tobacco is. A wonderful mix of tan and light brown ribbon cut tobacco sets the mood for its name-sake. Don't let the color fool you, the tin note is full and natural. As I pinched a bit out and onto my palm, I found it to be as ready to smoke right out of the can as any I have tried thus far (not to wet, not to dry). It packed nicely and now I was ready for my first Pease blend experience. It burned well through the charring light and settled into a nice even burn on the second flame. The first tastes were subtle, slightly tangy, slightly nutty. It remained smooth and nutty through the first half of the bowl as the perique slowly and gradualy introduced itself in the background without becoming promonent. The last half of the bowl was my favorate part of this smoke as the taste became richer and sweeter and all the flavors began hitting me at once. I found Cairo to be a very pleasent and mild smoke. Each flavor introduced itself at different points during the smoke and none of them tried to dominate the experience. I would not hesitate to recomend Cairo to anyone that is looking for a mild smoke.
