Peretti 125 Burley Slices
(3.00)
Notes: From Peretti's website: This formula was developed by Mr. Peretti relatively early in his career and then reintroduced to commemorate our 125th anniversary. This broken flake is dark and rustic in appearance and provides a full-bodied smoke. Instead of the sweetness of a Virginia, the flavor notes are instead the earthy nuttiness of burley.

A friend had a few half-pint jars of 125 that were around a year old, so the flavors had married nicely. Knowing that I am a Burley hound, he cracked a jar. I was in heaven. It is indeed much like Uhle's Blend 00 or John Patton's Storm Front. This is high quality Burley--hey, it's Peretti. Dark brown, broken flake, with I crumbled up good. Rich, deep Burley taste that is earthy and nutty with a hint of good Burley's natural cocoa flavor profile, but not as chocolaty as H&H Butternut Burley or Watch City's Deluxe Crumb Cut (both magnificent blends).
I got no sourness, maybe due to its age. Burley does not have to be a chocolate bar to be good stuff, though. You might want to cellar this for a few months or more to get the baccys to marry up good. This is indeed 3.5 stars or better, and I rounded up, since others rounded down. Not the best Burley ever, but wonderful. Burley lovers must try it, period.
