Cornell & Diehl Joie de Vivre
(3.23)
Joie de vivre, that magnificent ability to see the joy in everything, and the very embodiment of the festive spirit of New Orleans, is the inspiration for this singular, eminently cellar worthy blend. A foundation of fragrant Latakia and sweet red Virginia is joined by equal amounts of Perique and Katirini Turkish to enhance complexity, and then finished by a dash of unsweetened Black Cavendish for extra smoothness. Estimated peak: 8-12 years from tin date. But it's delicious right now!

I enjoyed the tobacco. Currently smoking it as I write this review. Its sorta like having a steak dinner. If you enjoy drinking stout beer or scotch I think you would love it. The taste is quite nice and very smooth.

Tin notes of smoky and fruity vinegar. The tobacco cake is black, brown with a tiny amount of light brown. Tobacco is not wet enough to need drying, breaks apart and rubs out easily. Burns slow with a few relights. The strength is medium and nic is mild. No flavoring was detected. Taste is medium, with notes smokey, woody, sour, earth, mildly tart fruit, mildly herbal, mildly sweet, and a spicy retro. Lead component is a battle between Latakia, supported by Turkish, and Virginias, supported by perique. Cavendish is in the background. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is ok.

A quality medium English Blend. Very similar in taste to some of the earlier Dunhill English Blends. Smokey, woody and campfire-like. To me, the Latakia here is dominant and lightly sublimates the other tobacco in this blend. However, it not a Latakia Bomb such as Gas Light or such. More like Dunhill's old London Mixture. Once again, a quality well behaved blend with excellent burn quality. Not an all day smoke, but an excellent evening after dinner smoke. Lasaiz Les Bon Temps Rouler.
