Watch City Cigar Ahab's Comfort
(3.63)
Before Captain Ahab threw his pipe over the side of the Pequod, he smoked this dark rich English Crumble Flake of 60% latakia balanced out with Turkish, white burley, stoved cavendish, red Virginia and perique. A beautiful sliced tobacco for those whose white whale is latakia!

Bag note Latakia with some sweetness. Rubbed out the flake/cake perfect moisture content. After the first light I get Orientals and spice , some sweetness from the Virginia . In my bag the Latakia is only half of the flavor, it is defiantly there but not the main player. This is defiantly a great blend with lots of flavors going on. Spicy with a bit of sweetness. The Latakia gives it fullness but the other flavors are in a good balance. I could easily smoke this all day. The Orientals and the perique give it an excellent flavor. Nic hit is medium to full. Highly recommended for non aromatic smokers.

This is a great English/latakia blend that was my go to blend when when I wanted a STOUT latakia smoke. Kudos to Watch City! The Vitamin L has been strewn with a heavy hand and I love it! The flake looks great with the various tobaccos crumble nicely by hand. It the classic blend of heavy latakia with sweet virginias and a perfect dash of perique. Rich and smooth. I will definitely squirrel some of this in the cellar! Enjoy and Happy Holidays!

I really thought this one would be a bell ringer, but it missed its mark. By ALOT. Its not 1 star bad but to me it was very monochromatic. Definitely does not smell like 60% latakia, and I belive that's because low grade lat means you need more of it to get that umph. I bought my few oz's last year almost to the day, and I hoped some time alone to think about how wrong its living its life and to imagine what it's best lifencould be would get it to turn around. But alas, I must abandon ship. Hopefully I can trade it.

Package note of pungent sour smoky and sweet. Tobacco is a Krumble Kake of a marbled dark brown, black and brown. Moisture content is great. Kake rubs out nicely. Burns slow with a few relights. The strength is medium and nic is medium. No flavoring detected. Taste is medium to full and consistent, with complex notes of sweet smoke, savory, floral, cocoa, wood, incense, rich earth, leather, tangy lemon grass, musty fermented vegetation, sweet bread, citrus peel/zest, herbal spices, dry dark fruit, a spicy sugary sweet smoky background note, and a peppery retro. Latakia is leading with Oriental/Turkish, Perique and Virginia supporting. Maryland and Kentucky are cheering on the sidelines. Room note is tolerable, and aftertaste is great.

This got lost untried in my cellar. This batch was maybe 6 months old. I have been on a Plum Pudding Reserve kick lately and this is quite similar. Been through more than an ounce now. Will keep at it to see if it makes the rotation, but it is certainly in contention.
Latakia up front but not a lat bomb. Hint of natural sweetness. The description has Kentucky in it. My taste buds say this is a background flavor.
To me it is best in a large pipe. Comes in slices. Easily broken out. I like my tobacco on the dry side and I break this down in a food processor.

Finished my pouch. Upping it to 4 stars. Not sure when I will order more as it is so similar to Plum Pudding Reserve and I have loads of that in my cellar, but would be quite well happy with this and will get more in the future.

Ahab’s is a thick Latakia heavy flake. Despite WC's website description of this having 60% Latakia content, it is not a Singular Lat-bomb like 10 Russians, Pirate Kake or Penzance. Instead, it burns cool, is loaded with flavors and has complexity. The Latakia is rich and smoky always leading the way but the Red Virginia and Perique combine synergistically into the support role of a subtle sweet dark fruittiness with a note of chocolate while the Turkish is buttery and floral rounding out the blend and it's full of flavors profile.
