CAO Black
(2.54)
CAO Black is a unique aromatic blend. The tobacco has a rich and tangy raspberry note, with a subtle undercurrent of creamy vanilla and cocoa, giving it a sweet and smooth flavor. Best of all, it's one of the most gentle smoking blends you're likely to try. For a bite free, blend with a great aroma, you've got to try CAO Black.

As a returning pipe smoker I decided that quality aromatics were a priority. CAO makes some of my favorite cigars and are consistent one batch to the next. I hate flavored cigars but pipes are different. I cracked the tin of CAO black and was not overwhelmed with a syrupy aroma of raspberry and chocolate. The berry was the top note on the tin note. I packed a bowl into my Cobbit Shire. The scent lingered and became a bit more pronounced while packing the bowl. It was not wet or sticky to the touch and getting a top coal was easy. Smoke quality right off the bat before the tamp was top notch. Post tamp and regular puffing a nice volume of smoke, most likely based on the quantity and quality of the cavendish was pleasant. The "berry" remained throughout but not tiresome. The chocolate notes were developing as the burn progressed but again more complimentary to the overall flavor. Room note? I smoke outside. the atmospheric note was pleasant. I live in a tropical climate. It is hot and humid here at least 8 moths out of the year. I was looking for an aromatic or an easy smoke to suit my climate. i think I found it!

Cao Black is a fruity desert tobacco. After having a half-tin, here are my notes:
No tongue bite. Mellow, girlfriend-approved room note. For me, the tin note smelled too strong of raspberries. This will prevent me from buying Cao Black again, although those who like cherry-type tobaccos may find the fruity note pleasurable. My tin needed to be dried for a full day. The smoke was surprisingly more pleasant than the tin note, as the raspberry aroma, while noticeable, wasn't overpowering and eventually gave way to a cocoa flavor. What I liked best about the blend was that it burned cooler than I expected. The nicotine buzz was also nice and mild. I had anxiety the fruity notes would stain my bowl, but thus far, this hasn't happened.
