McClelland No. 5125 Coyote Classic Full
(3.04)
A rich, full Oriental mixture made for the American taste. This is a classic outdoor smoke for the woodsman or cowpoke. It is stout with lots of smoked Latakia and fragrant Turkish, with just enough natural sweet matured Virginia for interest and balance. Then, we age it under pressure for several months to develop a tobacco that will bring the smoker so much pleasure he'll howl like a coyote.

This blend smells great in the jar, I had high hopes, granted mine had some major age on it, but still it smelled good. Smoking it though, it had some good oriental notes, but kind of a dull note that I get from many drugstore blends. Would be a good all day smoke for some I would think, but overall not my favorite. It just didn't speak to me as anything that I would want to consistently experience.

I purchased a re-branding of this from my local tobacconist under the name of "howl of the wolf." As a side, I love guessing what blends really are by the re-branded names. Anyway, one thing that put me off was the stems. There are quite a few of them, to the point where I asked myself "if I really cared what someone thought of my tobacco, wouldn't I present it a little better?" It takes me back to a statement I recently read in another reviewer that, "if its good enough to tin, it usually is." The taste in pretty monotone, and appears to be lacking something. Not really for me.

I could have saved myself a lot of trouble fussing with this tobacco if I'd just read Pipestud's review first for confirmation that this just-OK blend has an ineluctable rawness that I don't care for.
