I smoked this twice. I had a whole can "gifted" to me by a fellow pipester. This stuff is heavily cased in honey, it's incredibly sticky. I've seen chewing tobacco with less sugar than this. It was hard to get lit. Once lit it had very little flavor. And it gave me horrible tongue bite. Needless to say, I don't smoke it anymore.

With blends like MacBarens, cased in honey and sugars excessively, is it any wonder that Danes have to resort to using charcoal filters in their pipes?

There are many better Virginias out there if that's your thing. Personally, I find them too light usually. I'd recommend any of McClelland's flakes over this one, or even better, Best Brown from Samuel Gawith (honeydew Virginia done right... simply sublime).

Tobacco itself smells strange. Smoke smells like burning hay litter from a chicken coop. The taste is not so far from the smell. I couldn't finish a bowl because decided not to ruin my pipe.

I have smoked a lot of this in the past four months. The tin note is reminiscent of a reassuring Grandad, but in the bowl my Gran's saying that "The proof of the pudding is in the eating" tells a different tale. Despite pristine packaging this MacBaren offering falls short of its potential. It burns hot whether moist or dried out. There is not the complexity of other houses' Va's. There is little bite but it's blandness means I shall have difficulty remembering what it tastes like.

Probably the worst tobacco i ever had , i tried almost every method of packing but the smoke is always kind of smelly , tobacco itself smells nice but when it burns it smells like coal ! The worst thing is that it bites your tongue like crocodil!

This is a Virginia that can be somewhat hay like. While there may be some that find it pleasing, I find this to be a me-too Virginia blend of little distinction. There are beer choices in this genre.

I love virginia LOVE, but this was... Not really good.

Learning Mac Baren is not really for me, this blend was way way to sweet. You have the virginia with sugar, honey and sweets. Get some Golden Slice and not this trust me!

Its funny, but we all in life are taken by pretense from time to time, and in the case of MB's Virginia #1 the facade got me. From the attractive large, substantially weighted, attractive tin to the beautiful reddish virginia that lie therein...I was taken. This stuff burns hotter then any other tobacco to which I have set flame.

One of the kind reviewers had mentioned INCENDIARY with regard to either this blend or another MB, and I must agree.

I really wanted to like this one...it looked so good and smelled even better. But as I lie here with a morphine drip to help squelch the pain I simply cannot recommend this tobacco unless you have a fiberglass tongue....well Im off to the hyperbaric chamber to start rehab.
