Lane Limited Captain Black Red Sky
(2.95)
Red Sky is a rare blend - a tobacco with a cherry flavor and room note that isn't bitey or harsh. It starts with burleys and black cavendish with some bright Virginias, and has a rich, not-too-sweet cherry note that makes it a great addition to your aromatic rotation.

Let me first say that this the best of the Captain Black I have smoked. Let me next say, I doubt that I purchase again. Has black Cavendish with a hint of vanilla, some nutty burley and I believe Luden’s cherry throat drops. Packs well and stays lit, not too goopy. The nicotine is not really noticeable and you could smoke this all day. The room note was most likely the highlight of this smoke. This smoke would be a good beginners tobacco. I will finish the tin but to quote the Raven, “Nevermore”.

When compared to Captain Black cherry, it’s definitely an improvement. Higher quality leaf is evident, as is the less syrupy cherry topping. The burley is of sufficient quality to be enjoyable, but nothing to write home about. I’m giving it a 2 because it’s not actually bad, and I’d smoke it if there was nothing else, but it’s really more of a 1.6 for me.

Cherry cough drops, not as intense as Cherry Captain Black. Perhaps a little less bitey than Cherry CB. Not as good as Lane's Very Cherry. I got sick of it and blended it 50/50 with Lane's Dark Red which improved the Red Sky dramatically while serving to detract from the Dark Red.

I am not a true fan of cherry tobacco but every once and awhile I get a sweet tooth and light some of this up. I was given this as a gag gift when it came out and true to form I opened it. Loaded it up in my pipe and smoked it. Tossed the rest in a jar and forgot about it. Was a little wet at first. Now after being in a jar it has lost some of its smell but the rotate has improved. This is very sweet.
