I have no idea how old this tin is, but I haven't seen any available in close to 20 years. The tin was sealed but this had dried out considerably, although it was still smokable without rehydration. It looked in the tin like your basic tobacco shop bulk English, and it tasted like that as well.
Nothing wrong with this one. It smoked like any standard lighter English you may have picked up over the years. A mild sweetness and a smokiness that rules the proceedings. The orientals stayed well to the background but were noticeable. It was a decent smoke but it wouldn't fare well against the more complex and flavorful english blends of today, which may be why it's been discontinued. It certainly doesn't have the fullness of body nor the precise flavor profile of its old stablemate, Crown Achievement. The best I can describe this is that it was probably a Lane bulk that they stuck into a tin in order to attract an aficionado audience and charge more. Nothing to see here, and no reason to choke off your Ebay budget.

Another player in the English/Latakia field. This is a good, middle of the road English, though there is nothing to separate it from the field. I would probably have trouble differentiating this from any number of other blends I've tried in the past year. Worth a try.

This tobacco is in production again, but I don't know if it's the same recipe that was used in the past. I found it very unsatisfying - I had the feeling that it had, as its base, a very mediocre Virginia. But note that I prefer a much stronger English blend (which I don't smoke a lot of) - Balkan Sasieni. So perhaps my expectations were biased. I can't comment on room note, as I live alone.
