Lane Limited 1-Q

(2.78)
Basically a golden cavendish blend but with a hint of fire-cured blended in provides scintillating taste and flavorful aroma.
Notes: Despite confusion caused by persistent rumor, 1-Q is a Lane product and a Lane invention, sold by many brick and mortar shops under many names, including 'Wilshire' by the TinderBox stores.

This is one of my favorite smokes at this point for several reasons. I like the light flavor, everyone loves the room note, and it's very affordable. I enjoy heartier tobaccos and I'm really beginning to like Vapers and English blends but I keep coming back to this one at least once a day for a nice light smoke. I know it's an aromatic but it's a nice one, not at all like those goopy drug-store plastic bag tobaccos. I highy recommend this easy packing easy burning treat to anyone who wants to smoke in an area where other's might object to someone smoking a pipe, including your family.

This is the best tobacco I have ever smoked. I was talking to a couple of friends and it seems that whenever we try new tobaccos we wish we were smoking 1-Q. It has a mild taste and the best room note out of any tobacco out there. Its smoke is whirling swirling magical.

I'm sorry it took me so long to try this tobacco. It's a treat. Mild but tasty, especially as it smokes down in the second half of the bowl and the natural Virginia sweetness really kicks in.

It shares with Lane RCA a vanilla note that I associate with the the scent of oak casks. This is stronger in the RCA, better integrated in 1Q where it nicely complements the Virginia flavor.

All in all, a very clean, cool smoke with almost no noticeable nicotine kick, just a slight buzz, which is how I like it. Leaves only a very subtle aftertaste, which is another plus. The room note is generic pipe smoke fragrance. Burns well without any bite and leaves a fine darkish ash and at the very bottom a little dottle but no goop. I can see this becoming an unfussy all-day smoke.

This is one of my favorite tobaccos. I love the subtle taste of it. I never have any bite and it doesn't goop up bad. Anyone who likes mild aromatics needs to give this a try.

There's another review up there that sort of says it all: Lane's LTD 1-Q is the alpha and the omega of tobaccos. It's the review of a rather jaded person who has tried 800 blends.

My dearest fondest love is reserved for Lane's 1-Q. It is the FIRST time ever that I was never bitten; never was it at any moment bitter or sour; the room note was what it ought to be; and the wife is totally sold on this blend.

I was never so impressed with the cavendishing of a burley. That and the delicate hint of honey is what sold me on this stuff. Yes, you read it right: HONEY. There's nothing "fruity" about this.

Also I have to take exception to the complaints about it gunking up the pipe. I do not know what some people are doing but I have never had any more trouble with 1-Q than I've had with any other tobacco, period! Are you guys coating your bowls with milk and honey before loading up?? 🙂

It's also true it is THE prime base for your home recipes. Here's mine, bye the by: 4 OZ Lane's to 1 OZ of Velvet and 1 OZ of Kajun Kake (which ought to be rubbed out and slightly dry when blended). Marry this as long as you like, or smoke it then and there. I have one humidor with this blend which I keep on hand at all times. I call it "Thundersnow 13". Now, if you do this, you won't get so 'tired' of 1-Q, as I've noted people saying.

Also note: this competes and beats hands-down the Haunted Bookshop I hear so much about...no comparison at all, really.

For the rest of the time, and I only try aromatics and cavendishes as a sort of desert course, Lane's 1-Q is MINE!

Having grown up around many pipe smokers, all of whom had different tastes and preferences, I often fell like I have multiple tobacco disorder; I don't subscribe to the view that one should only smoke low end or high end, english or aromatic etc, tobaccos. I have an appreciation for the strengths, and weaknesses, of all the varieties we have. . .

That said, 1Q is a blend I always come back to. Whatever else I'm interested in at the time, I always have a few pounds of this stuff nicely stored away, and a good bunch in my 'daily' jar.

Why do I love it? Well, to be honest, the excellent room note helps my wife accept my pipe habit, but foremost is the fact that it is simply a tasty yet light aromatic I can smoke all day without getting tired.

It usually needs a bit of drying out for my taste, but packs easy, smokes smoothly and never bites. I assume the casing is vanilla, but I still get the nice sweet cavendish flavor coming through. This is the weed I smoke when I just want a pipe hanging from my mouth while doing virtually anything; it is mild, satisfying and never offensive. Not much Vitamin N, but that can be a good thing.

Though I do like other Lane blends, like BCA and RLP-6, this one is best, imho. I'm not as keen, for some reason, on the casings for either of the above.

If I want latakia/oriental/virgiania, I'll smoke Balkan Sasanie, Squadron Leader or Frog Morton. But if I want a nice American-style aromatic, this hits the spot.

Recommended for someone looking for a nice, tasty cavendish-based aromatic.

What can I say, 1Q is my go-to blend. I am an aromatic smoker, and have plenty of different blends on hand but the only one I must purchase by the pound is 1Q because I smoke it daily. It's simply a great, neutral smoke, and despite what others may say, doesn't ghost a pipe. In fact, I use it to "neutralize" a pipe in which I've smoked something else that I didn't care for and it's worked a treat each time (of course, a quick clean with Everclear and then a dab of brandy precedes the 1Q). The room note is very mild snd pleasant and is in no way offensive, in fact my non-smoking girlfriend prefers it over how my Peterson and Dan aromatics smell. 1Q is just a nice, simple blend, nothing more, nothing less. Perfect for the first pipe of the day or complemented by a cold iced tea and an episode of Sherlock Holmes on a chilly winter's evening. Vitamin N strength is nil, but that's what makes it good as an all day blend. Highly recommended!

I have worked for a few tobacco stores in the last 15 years. One in Northern Virginia and two in Charlotte, North Carolina. I also visit many other fine tobacco stores in those areas. I have tried 1-Q from Lane from the start back in 1994 at Georgetown Tobacco. They call it Revere and John B. Hayes calls it Aspen. When you get to Tinderbox they call it Wilshire. Old Virgina stores call it Checkmate! At Outland Gift and Cigar they call it 1-Q. It it the best selling tobacco in everystore I have worked! It is mild and plesent to smoke. It tends to burn wet. I recommend smoking it out of your aromatic pipes only. Clean your pipe after each smoke. I have never heard as many popular comments from ladies about how great this blend smells. Men like it as well. When we sold a first timers kit which included a pipe, pipe cleaners, pipe nail, tobacco pouch, and 2 ounces of 1-Q. Don't let some tobacconist tell you it is not good to smoke aromatics. They can be pleasent, mild and nice to smell.

This is one of the aromatics that can be hauled around pipe and pouch for a full day. It is mild, smooth and has a good room note. I maintain that it might get old if one was not switching off to other blends on a regular basis, though in itself it can break the rhythm from too much indulgence in the English blends. A little variety always helps the cause. This is a stand up blend that is certainly worth consideration.

I love this Tobacco, I have smoked this stuff for years. It has the aroma of Vanilla,Coconut, and perhaps Chocolate. Zero tongue bite, and holds its flavor all the way down the bowl. It burns to a clean dry ash, a wonderful blend that you must try.
