Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1957

(3.25)
Bright Virginias, light brown burleys and a touch of black cavendish combined to create perfect harmony in this blend. A naturally sweet tasting blend, the soft, creamy vanilla adds to the elegant room notes. Perfect for a relaxing moment any time of the day.
Notes: As the 4th Generation tobacconist in the Stokkebye family, Erik's personal favorite is the 1957 blend.

Extraordinary Tobacco... one of the finest Aromatic Virginia blends I have ever tasted. I prefer the lighter tobaccos for my daily smoke and I often reach this or the 1897 as my "go to". I don't feel I can add anymore insight to the flavors or tin aromas that haven't already been covered. I do feel that this is a world away from Captain Black or Mac Baren's 7 Seas, both of these are fine for what they are, but this is absolutely in a different class.

I went into this thinking one more vanilla blend. Opened a new tin and the tobacco smells great. No problem lighting and no problem keeping the tobacco lit. l like when i can enjoy the tobacco taste over the flavoring and this tobacco delivered. Complex and smooth no bite and a great room note. I will buy this again it is a pleasure to smoke.

This is a fully rubbed out mild, smooth and cool smoking aromatic pipe tobacco, perfect for beginners. If you are not a beginner this does not have much to offer. Although I am not an aromatic pipe smoker and prefer pressed tobaccos, I highly recommend this tobacco for beginners, it is excellent for what it is.

1957 is a lightly flavored vanilla Burley/Virginia with such a small amount of Cavendish the few strands can be counted. It burns cleanly and allows the tobacco flavors to still make their way through. The flavor does deepen in a good way as the bowl progresses. It can burn hot if pushed, but with care, it is a pleasant light aromatic. Those that enjoy vanilla aromatics or those that seek a lightly flavored aromatic as a change of pace will find a happy home with 1957.

A Pretty decent blend. The Tobacco itself seemed to be a bit dry, and I know many aromatics tend to bite your tongue. This blend did not. It burned a bit hot, but not hot enough to put down. It lit easily, but also burned faster then my other tobaccos.

Didn't really feel much strength. The room note was very pleasant, but was still a good pipe tobacco smell, which I look for.

The taste was surprisingly good. It was full and had hints of Vanilla. I would recommend this to an aromatic smoker, and will look into other blends from this blender.

Not a bother to keep lit. Soft, creamy, vanilla. Not much bite. Great flavor, toasty/savory? I have enjoyed it both after dinner or relaxing in the middle of a humid summer afternoon. Halfway through the tin now. Getting more. Easily one of my favorites.

Always on the lookout for a good Vanilla aromatic, will 1957 be a good year?

By now I'm sure you have noticed the diminishing size of every grocery store product; a pound of coffee is now 12oz, the 2oz candy bar is much smaller, and now the standard 1.75oz tin is way too large for the paltry 1.4oz of 1957 it houses. For it's diminutive size, the doily-staining tobacco inside does smell quite nice... a raw cooking vanilla with some sour raisin hints. The spongy, thin cut ribbons are clearly topped, but not to the point of chemical warfare. I just personally hate blends with this texture and no hearty bits inside (it becomes cotton wadding to pack).

The lit product had a pleasant taste leaving a sweet sheen in the saliva. Most sweet aromatics I've encountered use Cavendish as a vehicle for delivering the flavor, to the point they are stewed and wet beyond recognition, here the Burley adds a bit more structure and it's typical hay flavor to the mix. Leaves some dittle in the bowl, didn't bite, and was your general mild affair.

In the end, it was the limp cut, and cut in product size that left me a bit limp on this one. For my money stick with Dan's vanilla products.

A well balanced mixture, not too mild but not too strong, which would satisfy both the smoker looking for an aromatic and the smoker not too keen about aromatic mixtures.

The vanilla addition is quiet, not disturbing and brings a nice expperience. A bit expensive but worth trying.

A pretty nice blend. Light, sweet and smooth. Burns very cool. Sweet Virginia with a hint of nuttiness. The only down side I can find for this blend is the unpleasant aftertaste it leaves. I know its tobacco smoke and in most cases the aftertaste isn't really an important part of the smoking experience but the aftertaste on this one was so strange and unpleasant I had to smoke something else immediately to get rid of it.
