All things are relative and all smokes subjective.

This tobacco is as dark as Newgate’s knocker - a cavendish, I believe, with a very synthetic, ott, cherry gloop added to it, but not enticing in the “Cherry Ripe” sense; this doesn’t say “smoke me”, this says “get a couple of pounds of sugar, half a dozen eggs and some flour; we’re baking tonight!”

The smoke is as overpowering as the pouch note, like going three rounds with a heavyweight boxer - your mouth gets pummelled with right and left hooks, before a devastating upper cut forces you to put the pipe down for a rest and a cup of tea.

This will ghost a pipe worse than Marley can haunt Scrooge - it does not dissipate, even after you give the pipe a good clean out so be warned.

In my humble opinion, there are better, more subtle, cherry aromatics out there - Samuel Gawiths Black Cherry for instance - that I won’t be buying this one again.

To each their own and to all a good pipe but not one for me.

I was disappointed in this offering from GH. I was expecting a much heavier presence of something, cherry-ish. It just doesn't cut the mustard if you are really looking for a cherry bomb. Monochromatic, dull, very little real tobacco taste and certainly no where near the presence of cherries. 4noggins Lord Methley's has more of a cherry/berry presence than this. Two stars.

i bought a 25g pouch of this tobacco a couple of days ago.upon opening the pouch the aroma is quite nice and the look of the tobacco was nice and dark..but...it was so dry to the touch..so i first had to put some moisture back into it..and i had to rub it out as it was far to course..now having tried 'sweet peach' and 'cherry and vanilla' i thought this 'black cherry' was going to be a nice smoke....wrong!!!..for me its tasteless and bland..and not nice at all..i did give a it fair shot..but in the end i mixed it with the last of some 'sweet peach' that i had..and it still was not very good. so i wont be buying this kendal tobacco again, others may like it..but i didnt.

Not long into pipe smoking, tried this as my uncle used to smoke black cherry years ago...Bought from Morans in Belfast who have a plentiful supply. this is the first cherry tobacco i have tried that actually tastes how it smells, not easy to keep lit but gets better the more you smoke it,a good firm tamp helps! I smoke Falcons and i think that gives it the extra cool smoke with very little dottle and smokes right down. Everybody likes the aroma in the room, a very satisfying aromatic indeed!

This is the first of the Gawith blends that I have tried that I would have second thoughts about buying again, (and I have tried many, many, of their blends). With the other blends that I have tried, the flavoring(s), have always intermingled with the high quality base tobacco that has been used. I have smoked this blend at least a half-a-dozen and have come to the same conclusion everytime; namely, I am reminded of the aftertaste of cough medicaine on my taste buds. Yes, it does burn beautifully, the scent to the people around me is more than acceptable, yet, I do not feel this warrents this blend to become a main stay in my celler. Next time I have a cold is probably when I will select this blend again.

This tobacco is definitely one you will either love or hate. I actually enjoy heavy Aromatics, so for me this was great. But make no mistake, if you dislike perfumery type tobaccos like Exotic Passion, you won't enjoy it. As far as the Cherry goes, its not a sweet cherry, but its there as a somewhat tart black cherry. The aroma is very nice with a flowery scent. The good thing is for a heavy Aromatic, it didn't bite me like Exotic Passion does. The smoke was rather mild allowing me to enjoy the aroma. It does indeed give you an aftertaste, so when you are done smoking, your mouth still holds the flavor for a while. You need to enjoy heavier aromatics for this one - But if you do, I think you will really enjoy this one. It stays lite easily right out of the tin and only required re-lights when I set it aside for a few minutes. Enjoyable, fragrant and somewhat Maracino Cherry taste. Enjoy!

Tin note of vanilla, cherry, and mild Lakeland. The black tobacco looks mostly like ribbon and ready rub. Tobacco feels dry, soft/moldable but not sticky. Drying is not needed. Burns slow with a few extra relights. The strength is mild and nic is mild. Flavoring is medium, with notes of Lakeland, mild cherry, and a very slight vanilla. Cherry is the first to dissipate, followed close by the vanilla. the Lakeland hangs out till the later stages but is less potent than when started. Taste is mild to medium and mostly consistent, with notes of brown sugar, floral, sweet grass, bitter wood, hay, a mild tart dark fruit background note, and a moderately peppery retro. Flavoring is leading with Cavendish supporting until the halfway point, when they swap. Room note is pleasant, and aftertaste is good.

Absolutely lovely. Natural cherry flavor with some Lakeland florals. This was my first cherry blend and I think it's a great place to start. Smokes very cool with absolutely no bite. Like a lot of the G&H blends, the tobacco is a bit wet out of the tin, so expect some re-lighting.

Smoking as I write from a Missouri Meerschaum Legend. . From the tin, very rich dark cherry. Large shag cut. Might have to relight or use your smoking skills on this one but it’s worth it. I always seem to have to relight this several times. Pleasurable smoke with a cherry flavor you can taste. Not the smoothest cavendish but good cherry flavor compared to others . This and Blood Red Moon are my favorite cherry flavored mixed so far.

Let dry, this is moist. This is a challenge to keep lit. Wonderful dark cherry notes that is evident throughout the first half of the bowl. Sweet dark sugar notes. No tongue bite or mouth tingle. A decent cherry aromatic.

Currently smoking one of the last few grams I have in my pouch.

My eyelids are heavy as I am typing this. I decided to load the last few grams I have in my pouch, just because.. and I realised the "trick" to smoking this tobacco blend.

I hated it. The first time I smoked it, it was the first time I smoked a pipe. It tasted nasty. It's so tart-ty. It gave the tip of my tongue and the roof of my mouth tongue bite. It's all my fault actually. I huffed and puffed on it as if I was the big black wolf after the three little piglets. My first experience smoking a pipe(reason being, it was wet AF. I didn't know it was. I loaded it from the pouch straight with no drying time. It didn't stay lit for long)

Now. The trick to smoking these types of blends is to smoke it mindfully. This blend is when you are ready to have some quiet time alone. No chattering away with friends, or watching the tv. Or reading a book. Or maybe you can do anything you like. As long as you are mindful of what you are doing.

Secondly, you give your pipe of choice a couple of gentle puffs(3 to 5) as you witness the smoke coming out of your pipe as you blow back into the pipe gently. Retrolhale(and exhale at the same time from your mouth) as you chew on the smoke after a few gentle puffs. And then set your pipe down. After a minute or so, tamp it gently. Then relight. That's the trick.

If you do as mentioned above and below, you will experience a light/gentle sweet taste instead of ash. The bowl will still be hot even with gentle puffing, that is why it is necessary to set the pipe down after a couple of puffs to allow the tobacco to cool down. This tobacco is very moist and doesn't stay lit. Don't fight it. Relight it a hundred times if you must. If you do as I mentioned, you will have a nice session.

Here's a bonus for reading till the end. Pack it lightly. The three layers method? Pack it lightly. Gently "caress" the tobacco into the pipe hole. With each layer, increase just a very tiny bit of strength than the previous layer.

I started smoking on 7th June 2019(07/06/2019) after I earned enough from my grabfood job. Lol. This is kind of like my record on the internet which I would laugh at myself later in years to come.
