Newminster No. 47 Danish Black

(2.60)
Notes: Special Virginia tobacco from South America is fermented for many hours to create this dark black cavendish. A light caramel mixed with sweet fruit flavors gives this blend a round and mild aroma.

I received this packaged well, was not too wet or too dry.

Easy to light, smoked through the whole bowl with no relights. Smokes very cool. No bite. I even smoked a little faster than normal after about half a bowl. Still stayed reasonably cool. To me, the taste was fantastic. Light caramel/vanilla comes through from start to finish. Room note is very pleasant. The wife asked if I was wearing new beard balm. This will definitely go into my regular rotation.

Alright, to be fair, I must admit that the tobacco I am currently smoking to accompany this review is a blend of Danish Black and Cloud Hopper - a cigar leaf blend by Warped Cigars and C&D. That’s my taste, but it is perfectly fine on its own. It’s Black Cavendish, not everybody wants it straight, but this is a pretty good one if you do.

I tried No. 47 Danish Black before ever coming here to see what was in it. As another reviewer wrote, Newminster is good tobacco, so I knew it couldn’t be too bad. I had no idea there was fruit flavor in the casing. It has a well-defined “tobacco taste” that asserts itself as quality leaf, but the heavy casing makes isolating and savoring it very difficult. That’s not a big deal - what you get is creamy butterscotch vanilla, with ponderous undertones reminiscent of Maduro. (Hence the reason I added my own cigar leaf, thought it might fit and it does.) The casing here is pretty clean, there is no chemical aftertaste or mouth-feel, and it burns dry enough. People say it smells like birthday cake, and it’s lite on the bite, for an aromatic. This is a great tobacco if you’re looking for a good Black Cavendish that’s easily had and easier still on a budget.
