The tobacconist insisted that I try this blend, and I decided to give a try although I am not into Cavendish aromatics. I’m a huge fan of GH, but the blends I like (Ennerdale, Bob’s Chocolate, Balkan Mixture) are all in a different typology. I feel, though, that here too GH succeeds in making something unique with their personality. This is my second trial with GH’s “American” blends, the other being Cherry & Vanilla.
The blend seems to employ a rather different concept of Cavendish than is usually found: only slightly sweet, it is not sweetish or goopy. The resulting smoke is rather fresh and light, without any tongue bite. The flavouring is very light. I may even say too light, others might say too bland. What I perceive is a rather neutral Cavendish, a good Virginia, and just a hint of whiskey. I bought it loose, and the moisture was perfect, although a little drying may help. Rather light in nicotine content, it is perfect for a relaxed moment when smoking does not require all my attention.
I’m not planning to buy more of this blend anytime soon, but this one would be my choice for a whiskey aromatic. It is light and balanced. Nothing is over the top. I would classify it as “elegant”.

I got this one in a group so I could a free tobacco tin. It was one I hadn’t tried.
The presentation is pretty, it looks like a typical American aro blend. Much black cav, burley and a bit of Virginia. It has some pieces that I needed to break up a little to make it more uniform. It came a bit moist, but that’s better than too dry. The tin note is a distinctive bourbon and a light candy, fruity sort of a scent. It packs and lights well after a short drying time. It burns very well, but nips my tongue some if I get after it.
The taste is interesting. The flavoring dies down a bit about halfway, and is better to my taste. The last third of the bowl becomes richer and I really enjoy it. The bourbon to me, is very reminiscent of Old Crow. Not a great bourbon. I also get a taste of something else. Almost like amaretto, almond maybe, and I’d swear there is a bit of a dark cherry flavor in this. It tastes more like an old fashioned, as opposed to just whiskey. It does have some slight sour notes to it, but not offensive ones. And I think they might be part of what gives me the impression of Old Crow bourbon.
The tobacco blend is very well done. I’m sure it could be smoked without flavoring and be a good all day blend. This is normal in my experience for G&H products. They do know how to blend tobaccos.
Overall, it’s not bad. I’ve smoked nearly all the 2 oz I got of this. I’m not sure I really like it, but it is pleasant smelling and smokes nicely. It is far and away the most distinct whiskey blend I’ve tried. I can’t say it reminds me of any other.
