W.O. Larsen Limited Edition 2013
(2.33)
This year W.O. Larsen offers a sophisticated blend of Virginia tobaccos and toasted burley. After a slow heating process black cavendish and Highland Whisky are added. A slight hint of orange is noticeable.

The grassy, citrusy, bready, mildly earthy and dark fruity Virginias for the base of the blend. The nutty, earthy, lightly woody burley is a supporting player. The black cavendish offers some sugar and a touch of toast. The Highland whiskey has a little richness with a light alcohol note. The hint of orange is noticeable in the background, and well compliments the whiskey. The toppings greatly sublimate the tobaccos. The strength level is in the center of mild to medium. The taste barely touches the medium mark. The nic-hit is a step past the mild threshold. Won’t bite, but get sport a harsh note and a tongue tingle if puffed like a steam engine. Burns at a reasonable pace with a mostly consistent flavor. Leaves little moisture in the bowl, and needs an average number of relights. Has a lingering after taste that is slightly spoiled by the syrup at the finish, and the aforementioned alcohol note. Not quite an all day smoke. Two and a half stars.

Pleasant tin aroma of Christmas pudding - appropriate for the date of writing this review!
Also a healthy splash of whiskey, with a hint of another deeper note [citrus tang?].
For my palate, this blend is too sweet and a bit cloying. [Natural Va 'sugars' are always more pleasing than the artificial sugars from a flavouring.]
Also the blend lacks breadth as the flavourings dominate and the tobacco is hard to find.
