With this new offering, Borkum Riff becomes the equal of superior aromatics of the likes of WO Larsen in terms of quality, good taste and burning qualities. This tobacco is beautiful, presenting various cuts - loose, ribbon, coarse and broken flakes - and colors range from golden to black. In the tin, a remarkable aroma of dried fruits and vanilla which is delicious. The tobacco is ready to smoke as it is on the dry side with minimum humidity. SE no 22 is an excellent aromatic tobacco that combines good taste of the casing and great burning qualities. It will not bite unless you push it. It has the merit of being much richer in taste and nicotine than tobaccos like Larsen and I can percieve some pure tobacco taste here and there. No 22 smokes to a gray ash, burns dry and leaves a nice fruit & vanilla smell in the bowl. You might want to dedicate one pipe to it to avoid the cross over problem.

Truly, a remarkable offering from Borkum Riff. I believe that ST Group managed to bring back from disgrace (due to ill advised previous owners) some of our favorite aromatic classics by making them high quality products.

Cheers and do not fear the name Borkum Riff on the label, gents. just try it!

Not long ago I received multiple tins of the Borkum Riff limited edition blends to review and sell on my private website from a friend up in Arkansas. It took awhile to get to them because, frankly, most Borkum Riff blends and my palate get sideways with each other. These limited production blends, however, were a cut above their standard fare.

Although this one has a wicked name that will cause many to stay away due to it being an unabashed aromatic mixture (I almost did the same), when I finally tried it I was impressed by the strength and bottom of the Burley and Virginia. Not sure what fruit sauce was used but strong hints of Vanilla came through with every puff. Certainly at the upper tier of the Borkum Riff lineup.

To be upfront, I'm not a huge Aro fan, but I did take a chance to buy a tin of this Riff in a green can last spring. Got it at a nice price too.

Nothing spectacular here, but I defy anyone to call this bad tobacco. Gentle, and non-chemical. If I ever had any other BR it made little impression on me; yes I know all about this company's rep as yucky drug store weed. I've thought about adding a little Perique to snazz it up, but I've yet to get round to it, and I probably won't.
I did however mix it with some MacBaren H&H Highland Blend which had been scorching my tongue and it was not only dealable but interesting.

Last summer when wanting something a little mellow for a hot evening, this
tobacco provided. You won't go wrong here- the worst you might ever call this would be "a little bland". If you have blitzed out your tongue but still want to smoke something, this could be just the antidote! Worse come to worst, you can use it for blending something too harsh. I think there's a new BR in a yellow can now that's rum flavored. I won't hesitate to grab a can of that in the future.

Taking the recommendations of fellow pipe smokers here and elsewhere, I bought a tin of the LE 22 Fruit and Vanilla.

Right out of the tin, there's a definite fruity-vanilla aroma, not particularly chemical either, which was nice.

I'm enjoying it often for its taste and room note, but I'm having a hard time keeping the tongue bite at bay, even in a calabash. Perhaps it tastes so good that I'm puffing too much . . . .

I'm hopeful Borkum Riff will come out with more limited edition blends to peruse, having had only one prior experience from a drugstore a decade ago that I vowed not to repeat.

I'd like to repeat this one.
