McClelland Frog Morton's Cellar

(3.47)
A mellow, fragrant latakia blend aged with stave cubes cut from barrels used to mature and flavor Frog Morton's own special whiskeys.
Notes: Notes: The name Frog Morton comes to us from the works of JRR Tolkien. Frogmorton: A village in the Eastfarthing of the Shire. It stood on the East Road, between the Three-farthing Stone (fourteen miles to the west) and the Brandywine Bridge (twenty-two miles to the east). Immediately to the north of the village, the stream known as the Water broke into two, creating a wide watery region - this feature seems to have given Frog Morton its name, which means "frog marsh".

Opening the tin it reminds me a lot of Boylan's Creme Vanilla soda.

Smokes fine, burns cool, with a creamy mouth-feel. The Latakia shows-up about mid-bowl, albeit subdued considerably.

Overall a pleasant tobacco; however, a bit too understated. Mind you that's the point, simply not quite to my liking though. This might be a good blend for English/Balkan devotees who are looking to please others with their room-note; compromise. Personally, I don't puff to please anyone be it pipes or cigars.

I'll finish the tin quickly, I can see it fading fast once opened; however, I won't seek it out again. Mac Baren's Solent is sort of similar with a bit more Latakia upfront.

McClelland Frog Mortens cellar - Got this as part of a trade , none of that after market ten times the original price BS . Starts out good and sweet and the whiskey is quite tasty . At the end of the bowl i am still wanting for something. Lacks body and spice for an English blend . Taste is good though . I wouldn’t chase an aromatic in the aftermarket because that is for suckers ! Little nictone to be found . Smoking this for breakfast and i’m still humgry ! 2

this review is just to keep track for myself mainly, less intended as a serious in depth review. Just to keep an eye of what ive tried and what I like, with quick notes about it. alot of these notes are from memory, and I will update the review as I continue smoking them.

again, frog morton for me has not been my favorite, although i will continue to try them. very smooth blends, light, and this is no exception. you get a smooth very mellow latakia with a casing of sweetness, from the burbon infusion. i wont really be back to this one anytime soon. it was a well made tobacco but just not my thing, id rather try another frog marton before this one again.

Far to weak!! There is no power no full tobacco flavour known by many english mixtures. The tobaccos in the tin are most black but i do not believe that is all latakia. A hbig portion black cavendish seems to thrown in here. And the virginias are to mild to shine through. So it is a boring semy sweet mixture with hints of chlorine due to the peaty malt and a little campfire. Not satisfying smoke

This isn't bad, but I was disappointed. Been debating a Frog Morton's for a while, but where I buy from only carried the larger tins. Finally decided to go for it, and since this was listed as an English blend which lately is all I smoke, I gave it a shot. It's pretty good, but, not what I was expecting. The added whiskey flavour makes it much more like an aromatic than an English blend to me, and as much as I like the smell, the taste of burnt flavours doesn't do it for me. Wishing I grabbed the Craftsbury Series instead. I'm not saying it's a bad blend, just, if you aren't into aromatic/flavoured blends, this should be passed on.

too mild for my taste. I've tried more than 20 bowls but still couldn't find a taste that I got in others latakia blend such as red rapparee, meat pie, old dublin, nightcap and so on. this will be the first and the last pack FM cellar for me.. what a waste

Nothing noteworthy about this blend. I like the whole series of Frog's, and this one is good like the rest. Easy to get along with, with volumes of smoke. Packs and lights easy too. However, until proven otherwise, I do not think that chunk of burnt oak is from a real barrel stave.

Woody and slightly bourbon tin aroma. Light english with a slight spice and again, the bourbon barrel really comes through. I've enjoyed this one somewhat although it was a bit lighter than I usually like my English. Room not is also very pleasant.

While some label this a "crossover" blend, I consider this an aromatic tobacco.

The tin note is sweet and smokey. The darkness of the tin may be misleading because this is a very tame and mild blend. There a little bit of smokiness, and decent amount of sweetness and the toppings. It smokes cool and usually burns leaving no dottle.

My tastebuds want something with more umph so I don't think I'll buy this again. I did find FM On the Bayou more intriguing than this blend though. The perique adds a nice dimension to the smoke that isn't present here.

There are three blends that come to mind when talking "English" with a topping. This, SG Perfection and Sutliff Kasimir. Among the three, I find Kasimir to be the best.

This tobacco is readily available so you should be able to give it a shot. It's just not for me.

Well, if you like the original Frog Morton, you will like this one too. Personally I am torn between finding it light but smooth and pleasant some times, and vapid and gimmickly flavored/artificial other times.

Yes, the block of oak in the tin is a gimmick. But yes, it also DOES impart flavour: you can clearly feel some oakiness and extra sweetness (bourbon whiskey?) in the smoke.

Overall, it IS Frog Morton, but with a bit less meat on its bones and more "makeup". In some pipes it is flavorful, in others it's dull and bland. What is sure is that, even if never completely convincing and satisfying, it's a very easy and pleasant smoke.

The Frog Morton line is a bit infuriating to me: I have never found tobaccos which are so full of "faults" for my taste... but which I keep returning to regularly. Easy to smoke and likeable, but also easy to forget. Some sort of love/hate (well, no, not hate... just scepticism) relationship. Anyway, unique blends, that's for sure.
