Gauntleys Of Nottingham Celtic Twilight
(3.67)
A blend of dark plugs. The regular smoke of Krys from the Nottingham Pipe Club.
The mixture or Irish Plug and English Plug produces a very rich and strong tobacco. Best smoked in a large bowl. Leave mainly in pieces, with some smaller bits broken off around. Smokes very cool with cigar like earthy flavours. The high nicotine content, makes this blend ideal for short 5 mins breaks. Tastes just as good relit as freshly packed.

Gauntleys-Celtic Twilight. This isn't presented the way I was expecting. Due to me not reading the description properly I was expecting a simple plug but when the pouch is opened I'm met by many different sized pieces of plug. Some a cm long and half a cm thick yet some really thin tiny bits.
The moisture is good so I can prepare it straight away. I opt to bundle a few of the small plugs together and slice with a knife. Because I like my plug tobacco cut into small pieces I have to be pretty meticulous because it's a little tricky as opposed to the simpler task of slicing from an un-broken plug. I then pack my pipe and initiate the burn.
Even though the tobacco pieces are still relatively chunky I find it lights fairly easily. I always use a jet flame for my plugs and flakes and it takes to this after only a few touches. It burns well but can go out a little easily if it's not puffed often enough. Whilst on the subject of the burn I'll add that this has to be one of the slowest burning tobaccos I've had, it seems to last forever!
I can't identify any flavours that suggest a topping of any kind. The only taste I can identify is a strong/stout Virginia one.
The nicotine is strong in this. But seeing as that's a more subjective point your opinion may vary, but I doubt it!
This would pair well with a strong coffee and be great to get the morning motor running of a major nicotine lover!
Even though this has a heap load of nicotine and I don't smoke for that I find it's bizarre appearance and superbly robust taste a real treat.
Highly recommended.

I like strong pipe tobacco, and this one hits the spot. Its slightly reminiscent of Brown Bogie with its peppery nicotine presence, but has a flavor all its own. It comes in broken chunks and has to be cut and rubbed out a little, smokes very cool with no bite at all. A good old fashioned pipe tobacco.
