The Zulu – a smoky and earthy latakia blend. Cyprian latakia is blended with a bit of dark fired Kentucky, sweet Malawi burley, Louisiana perique and spicy Oriental Djebel. The result is a strong and spicy blend with smoky and peaty but slightly sweet and fruity tones. The Zulu – a complex blend for the experienced bon vivant.
Notes: Contains 58% Cyprian latakia. Syrian was originally used until the stock ran out. Even though it isn't mentioned in the description (but on the tin itself), it has some black Virginia in it, as Hans Wiedemann confirmed.
(They changed the name of the series from "Foundation by Musicó" to "African Line")

It took me a few bowls to fully get it. But now Zulu is one of my favorite lat blends. It is not camp fire smokey like Cyprian lat. This is Syrian, which we should all enjoy while we can. The backbone is more of an earthy, winey taste. A bit of peat also comes through. Then a new flavor pops in every so often with bursts of sweetness just to keep things interesting. As one smokes through the bowl, Zulu's complexity comes through and spice notes start making themselves known until they nearly take over. One reviewer called this his Nirvana blend. I have to agree. The blender, had to shut down because of new EU legislation, but his blends are about to be offered again thru www.pfeifendepot.de Can't wait to order more and try some of his other masterpieces.

So far, the best of the HU line (at least for Latakia heavy blends).
Thicker cut, a large percentage of dark tobaccos (the Virginias are stoved too), an incredible richness and depth of flavour. This is juicy, smoky but also sweet, dark and toasted, with all the development and complexity of old time Latakia blends.
I like the other HU blends, but no one of them really stands out as something divine: this does.

Let me tell you a story as a review for this blend.
I was with my friends grilling and I took with me the Zulu for smoking that night. About worth for 4 pipefuls.
That should be more, than enough for the night and morning.
Lit up, smoked the first. Grilling and drinking beer at the same time. Than the second. Third. Fourth…
Nothing left. I was disappointed. Why did I not bring more?
It’s so creamy, smoky, cool and easy to keep lit. The perfect company for all day.
I did not think, that a Latakia blend could grow on me so much.
Perfect 4 stars!
